Sunday XI v Bridgend Town CC

Dymock won against Bridgend Town CC by 55 runs at The Pound.

Bridgend put Dymock into bat first with a solid opening partnership of Harry Wise (15 - welcome back) and Jason Charlton 13. Gabe Gregory then hit his first senior 50 in a patient innings that showed some real talent. Abz then came into join Gabe and smashed 51 in no time at all. Contributions from James Field and Big Joe Condron (30 & 26) led to a great total of 195.

The bowling was then started well by Sophie Cale (6 overs 7 runs) and Chinmay (4-13). Mike Cale then ripped through the middle order with pace and bounce taking 3 wickets. Justin Gregory even got in on the wickets with a well taken catch by Harry Wise!

All in all a comfortable victory against a lovely touring side.

MoTM - Justin Gregory - for driving Gabe to games and training for years - perseverance pays off! (And he got a jug in).

It was a wet end to the cricket league with both Saturday games being cancelled!

Despite this we were still able to celebrate both teams comfortably securing their positions in their respective leagues and a couple of the seasons highlights:
Matt Barratt’s impressive 105* and fifer and Dave Williams taking his 100th league wicket for the 2s and 300th for the club!

We also celebrated Dave Nicholls who will sadly be moving away- we will miss you and wish you and your family all the best on your next adventures.

Sunday match report! Sunday XI v Bayshill CC

Another win for the Sunday team, this time by 7 runs!🏏

Dymock won the toss and elected to bat first. Mike Cale and Jason Charlton got us off to a slightly edgy start, with four fours somehow finding their way through the slips!

The middle order then stepped up to stabilise things, with BIG Joe smashing a very quick 12, backed up by Tom Fleetwood’s 26 and another 50* from Mr Field. Some lovely batting from Gabe and Will kept things moving before Gabe clearly mistook poor Will for Usain Bolt and sent him back to the pavilion having been run out! The innings was eventually finished off by Harry Eales, as we posted a competitive total of 159-7.

Onto the bowling and what a start! Dymock’s very own Crouch (Joe) and Defoe (Gabe) combined to have Bayshill 10-2 after just two overs. This was followed up by some excellent bowling from Will Tucker, before James Field produced another brilliant spell of 6 overs for just 13 runs. Harry Eales also chipped in with 6 overs for 23 and 1 wicket.

Heading into the final over, Bayshill needed just 10 runs to win. Step forward Joe, who produced a tight final over, conceding just 3 runs to seal a fantastic 7-run victory.

Saturday’s match reports!

1st XI v Whitminster CC
A tough day in the office for Dymock’s 1st at high flying Whitminster. Dymock lost the toss and were put into field, with a batting wicket and a fast outfield, runs were there to be had. Whitminster scored an impressive 327/3 off their 40 overs. Very proud of how the lads battled in the last 10 overs to get the bowling point.

With the bat, it was always going to be a challenge but Dymock fought well scoring 228/7 off our 40 with strong contributions from Green 48, Thomas 47 & Holford 48.

Final game of the season at The Pound this Saturday v Bourton Vale!

2nd XI v Tewkesbury CC
Dymock 2s 129 for 7 lost to Tewkesbury 131 for 3

The division winners proved a hurdle too far as our 4 game winning run came to an end. Batting first, our openers failed in their job of seeing off the new ball bowlers and we struggled to recover from a difficult start, stuttering to 16 for 4 from 8 overs.

Although the game was probably over by this time, points (and our position in the league) were still at stake. Consequently, our remaining batters knew they had to bravely battle on, and so they made good on the instruction to bat the 40 overs. Oliver Williams led the resistance with an excellent innings of 63 not out, with some stout support from Mike Cale (17) and Dave Smith (13).

Despite our low score the end of our innings had some excitement as Oliver pushed towards the second batting point. He was aided in this by Tobias who elegantly struck two boundaries to achieve this important if limited goal.

Given such a low target it was difficult for our bowlers to exert any pressure, and in truth our bowling and fielding was a little below par after our recent high standards. Still, we stuck at it and Dave Nicholls (2) and Mike Fish (1) were rewarded with wickets.

Pom: Oliver Williams - he looked a class act against some good bowling, with an honourable mention to Tobias - 2 nice boundaries and our best fielder on the day.

Sunday match report! Sunday XI v Bromyard CC

A great win for the Sunday side with a fantastic all-round performance from Dymock!

Batting first, we put Bromyard under plenty of pressure, finishing on 227-6 from our 35 overs. There were plenty of standout performances with the bat, 43 from Harry Pitcher, alongside quick-fire 50s from James Field and Josh Brawn. A special mention also has to go to Dymock’s very own giant, Joe Condron a very handy 19 with the bat before turning it on with the ball and picking up 3 wickets! 👏

Onto the bowling and we couldn’t have asked for a better start. Maisie Dodd and Harry Pitcher both picked up a wicket in their first overs to get us off to a flying start. James Field and Harry Eales then backed it up brilliantly as the whole bowling attack kept the pressure on, eventually bowling Bromyard out for 180 from 30 overs.

Standout bowling figures:
Harry Pitcher 4-18
Joe Condron 3-56

We go again this Sunday, at home to Bayshill CC!

Saturday’s match reports!

1st XI v Kingsholm CC
Dymock 1sts continue impressive 2nd half of the season with a win v Kingsholm!

We won the toss and decided to bowl first. It wasn’t our best day with the ball, allowing Kingsholm to get themselves to 137 from 36.3 overs, with a few too many extras and runs given away. J Field was the standout, bowling really well to finish with 4/17 from his 8 overs, including four maidens. C Lambert picked up 2/32, with M Barratt, J Brawn, B Caffull and D Gale taking a wicket each.

Thankfully, we made up for it with a very strong chase. Jake Wise was outstanding, scoring 67 from just 51 balls, with 10 fours and 2 sixes. He took the game away from Kingsholm and gave us a great platform to chase the total down. M Barratt added a useful 32 before J Field finished things off unbeaten on 15. We reached 139/3 in 19 overs to win by 7 wickets.

Not our best day with the ball, but a really good batting performance to get us over the line. Big credit to Jake for an excellent innings.

2nd XI v Highnam Court CC
Dymock 2s 217 for 8 beat Highnam Court 166 all out.

The start to our game was a replay of many this season. Win the toss, bat first, get off to a good start. But then …. Disaster. The tenth over started with us 43 for 0 and finished with us 48 for 3, with the skipper’s comedy run out literally leaving him on his knees. The instruction was, as ever, bat 40 overs, score 200 runs. So, when the going gets tough Oliver Williams and Dave Nicholls get going on the rebuild, both getting 20s and setting the scene for Dave Williams to notch another 50, supported well by both Dave and Ollie Smith (both 20s) and Tom Churchill’s late biffs.

After a rapid start from the oppo we started chipping away, Sophie, Dave Williams, Dave Nicholls and Mike Cale all claiming a wicket each. Pick of the bowlers Oliver Williams (8 overs 6 maidens 3 for 13) and Tom Churchill (8 overs 1 maiden 3 for 37) supporting us to finish with a comfortable win.

Player of the match goes to Oliver Williams- dogged determination with the bat, sweet inspiration with the ball. Top work Oliver.

A special mention of Dave Williams- top batting set up our win on the day he claimed his 100th league wicket for the 2s. A tremendous achievement 👏

Also a shoutout to Highnam Court CC who deserve commendation. The game was played in excellent spirit, and they volunteered a sub fielder (well played Chris and Tony) when one of our players was unwell. Thank you!
