What an incredible night of racing at the 5k/10k race. A total of 84 Durham City Harriers helped to paint the town orange! 🍊

First up was the 5k, which doubled up as our Club Championship race. A cracking turnout, and so many incredible performances. Huge congratulations to our Club Championship winners, as below:

Will - Senior male
Rory Woods - Veteran male
Evie - Senior female
Claire Hutchinson - Vereran female

In the 5k, Will finished 2nd overall, just in front of Rory Woods (4th) and Henry (6th) who were top 10. Evie finished 4th in the ladies race, just in front of Evelyn (5th) and Isla (8th). Proof indeed that both the junior and senior sections are thriving!

On to the 10k, and the achievements were no less impressive. Megan Stenhouse, following on from her win in the Sunderland 5k Northern Atheltics Championships with 1st place in the ladies race in a stunning time of 34:11. Megan finished 7th overall, and was followed closely by our first male finisher Ian Adamson (10th) First veteran over the line was Matt Hornsby (12th).

A superb night, with such a buzz around the most beautiful city. Top performance alongside top effort and commitment across the board 🍊

What a night we had at the Sunderland Harriers 5k race, incorporating the Northern Athletics 5k championships!!

First up were our juniors, with Patrick 1st finisher in the Under 10 race and our relatively new members James and Freddie running absolute blinders in their respective age categories πŸ‘

Steve Hamil recorded a fine 2nd place in the MV50 age category in the Male 50+/senior women's race, but it was the prolific Megan Stenhouse picking up a superb gold medal to become the Northern Athletics 5k championships for the second successive year. Congratulations Megan, we are very proud of youπŸ…

Some other very good performances from our runners, with an especially eye catching run from 14 year old Henry, who recorded an outstanding time of 16.18 πŸ’ͺ

A good night's work, well done guys 🍊

What a special night we had at our annual Durham City Harriers "Men vs Women" race. Always a hotly contested affair, but at the same time a great social get together. Alongside the event we had our bake and kit sale, which was to raise money for Breast Cancer Now, in memory of beloved friend/club member Gill. A total of Β£327.50 raised, and there will be more to come over the course of the year!

We took the opportunity after the race to mix as one big group, and also with our fantastic junior section who had their own internal club race to run alongside the main event! 🍊

Celebrating Pride on the track πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ

Pride Month is a celebration of love, identity, equality and the freedom to be yourself. It's also an opportunity to recognise the history, achievements and ongoing challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community.

We believe running should be a safe, welcoming and inclusive space for everyone. Sport has the power to bring people together, create belonging and build confidence. That's something we celebrate not just this month, but every month.

In recognition of the Progress Pride Flag, we invited members to show their support by wearing one of its colours to training. Take a look at what they came up with!

What a morningπŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ»

An incredible 630 runners gathered at Maiden Castle yesterday morning, and what a welcome we gave them.

Over 50 volunteers were out in force: pacing runners to a goal time, marshalling the course, managing the funnel and scanning barcodes at the finish line. We wrapped up with cake, great chat and plenty of new faces asking about joining the club. And we had a little something extra for anyone who picked up a flyer yesterday.

Did you run parkrun yesterday? Comment below for kudos from the whole club 🧑

NEGP Track Round-Up πŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ»

Some of the region’s quickest middle-distance runners competed for the Jimmy Hedley Trophy at Jarrow last week. Named after Steve Cram’s famous coach and held at the track where Cram* trained as a youngster, this prestigious 800m race attracts a quality field of seniors and leading age group athletes.

In the night, no one could match Will J who led from gun to tape, winning the trophy in an outstanding new PB of 1:52.97. Well done – a reward for your commitment Will!

Our athletes also dominated the 800m B race, with four outstanding performances. Joe S, took time off from exams to win in 1:58.4, followed by Arthur R (1:59) and James W (1:59) – all breaking 2 minutes for the first time – and Sam M finished fast in 2:02. Also on the programme, Shauna P ran a 800m pb of 2:49, there was a notable β€˜recent best’ for club stalwart Jacqui H in the 200m (31.85).

We capped off a brilliant evening with the longer races: u-16 Evelyn P showed her potential with a very strong 3,000m debut of 11:17, while Henry E, still in the younger year of under 16s, took another big chunk off his already impressive 3,000m time, finishing under 9:30.

Congratulations to everyone. It was a great evening's entertainment and it’s fantastic to see several senior athletes mixing it at these events.

*we might need to tell some of our juniors who Cram is!
