CAPTAINS MESSAGE 🫡

We caught up earlier with our captain Chloe Powers about tomorrows game, Chloe took up the captaincy at the end of last season after Lily Bogan’s departure and as one of our longest serving players she has led the team with pride, Chloe had this to say ⬇️

“I am honoured to lead out the team in our final match of our final season. This cup final is a huge game for us and I am so proud of all the girls in getting us to this point. Talent got us here, character wins it for us tomorrow. Thank you to all our parents and other supporters over the many seasons and let's bring cup success in our final game”

WARBRICK PREDICTS TOUGH FINAL TEST!

As we prepare for our final ever game tomorrow we caught up with the boss Andy Warbrick to give us his views on the occasion!

'It seems to be appropriate that at the end of the ten years that this team have been together that they go out with their first League Cup final. They have shown this year what a great set of players they are and we hope that if they play to the potential they have then they can go out on the high they deserve.'

When questioned on the opposition Bedlington Warbs said 'We know Bedlington well, this being the third time we will face them this season, and the quality they have. They will pose us a real challenge on Saturday with strength all over the park. However, I hope with the experience we have gained from those three games allows us to counter the threats and enable us to create great chances from our side.'

“We will be fully prepared for the game and will be doing our utmost to deliver on what will be a day with a lot of emotions”

Durham United WOMEN UNDER 18’s FC final ever game after 10 years is this coming Saturday as we take on Bedlington Fc in the league cup final at Birtley Town FC!

Kick off is 10am and entry is FREE, would be fantastic to see a good support along to cheer on the lasses!!

Match report.

Stockton Town Youth 2 v 0 Durham United Women.

We made the long trip to Stockton today for our penultimate game and final game of the Spring cup. We knew this would be tough based on previous games against Stockton. We spoke before the game about being tough, getting in the opposition faces and play for each other.

The game started with Stockton on the front foot and for about 15 minutes that how it stayed, Stockton controlled the play however strong midfield battling and resolute defending so chances were created. It was Durham who had the first chance, Chloe Powers with a chance in the box but couldn’t test the keeper. Stockton continued to dominate and took the lead, the right winger found space and hit a powerful shot to find the back of the net.
Durham got themselves into the game but just couldn’t get a foot on the ball and be creative. Having 3 forward players missing was really showing and as hard as we tried Durham just couldn’t create anything.

Half time message was keep the ball, play football work harder than the opposition.

The second half was very similar to the first, Stockton with lots of possession, very little chances created, it has to be said Ava did make an excellent 1v1 save to keep the score at 1-0.

As much as Durham huffed and puffed we just couldn’t create anything clear and with about 10 minutes left Stockton doubled their lead.

Overall a disappointing result, the girls put plenty of effort in but just couldn’t create. With only 12 players and a lack of forwards it showed and fair play to Stockton they dominated the game.

It is frustrating that in what is the equivalent to a cup final we only had 10 players, less than 24 hours before kick off.

Hopefully this gets it out of our system and gives us a jolt for next week’s cup final in what should be a great occasion and the final ever game for this team.

A frustrating end to our spring cup campaign as we go down 2-0 to a strong Stockton side, in a game of very few opportunities Stockton were ruthless we weren’t!!

A wake up call ahead of the cup final!
