πŸ”„οΈ Healthy Habits - Resetting after the Holidays

School holidays are a very fun time for families, but they can also be hard work for parents. For this reason, it's so important for parents to take the time to practice a little extra self care at this time to help you to transition back to your family's normal routine.

Here's our top three tips for parents looking to reset after a busy summer.

πŸ§˜πŸ’€. Rest and reset. Parties, play dates and trips out all come at a cost to your energy. Take some time for intentional rest; that could be a snooze in the daytime, a walk in the park or a quiet coffee by yourself. All of these things help to bring you back into balance, whilst taking a little bit of time for yourself.

πŸ“žπŸ‘₯ Connect with others. Taking time to connect with people that you may not have had a chance to see over the holidays is an essential practive for helping you to return to normality. Call a family member, meet up with a friend for a chat or get out for a stroll together; every connection counts.

🧽🫧. Reset your space. Chances are, your space may have got a little messy during the holidays! If the job feels overwhelming, try setting a timer for 15 minutes to get started, or tidy in categories (rubbish, then laundry, then dishes, then putting things away). A clear space is a clear mind.

πŸŽ’ Healthy Habits - Back-to-School Routine Guide for Parents πŸŽ’

The long summer days are great for relaxing the rules – but as the new school year approaches, it’s time to gently guide the children (and yourself!) back into a routine.

Here are some simple tips to help make the transition smoother for everyone:

⏰ Ease Into Earlier Bedtimes Start shifting bedtime 10–15 minutes earlier each night about a week before school starts. Gradual changes feel less like a shock to the system!
🍳 Bring Back Morning Routines Set a consistent wake-up time and begin getting ready as if it’s a school day – breakfast, getting dressed, and brushing teeth. Practice makes perfect!
🧠 Reintroduce Screen Time Limits Gradually reduce daytime screen time and move evening devices away from bedtime to help reset sleep patterns and attention spans.
πŸ–οΈ Start Quiet Learning Time Reading together, doing puzzles, or some light writing exercises help children to get back into a learning mindset – without pressure.
πŸŽ’ Get Organised Together Let your child help pick out school stationery and supplies, prep their uniform, or plan lunches. Involving them builds excitement and ownership.
πŸ—£οΈ Talk About the Year Ahead Ask how they feel about going back – excited, nervous, unsure? Reassure them it’s normal to feel all the things. Let them know you're in it together.
πŸ’š Be Kind to Yourself Transitions can be tough on parents too. Deep breaths, realistic expectations, and a bit of prep go a long way. You've got this!

✨ A little routine now means a calmer start later. If you have any tips for other parents, be sure to share them in the comments. ✨
