BEAMISH LIONS - HOME

A break from league action this weekend as we welcomed Division 1 side Beamish Lions to Wellfield for a 9am kick-off in the League Cup🏆.

It was a frustrating first half for Shincliffe who started slowly and struggled to get the ball down and play the football we know they are capable of. Credit to Beamish, who battled hard and made things difficult, limiting our opportunities and keeping the game goalless at half-time.

HT: Shincliffe 0–0 Beamish

A few honest words at half-time about the first 30 minutes and the boys responded immediately.

The Shincliffe we’ve seen over the opening games of the season came to life in the second half.

Jamie opened the scoring with a fantastic left-foot strike from the edge of the area, and that goal seemed to release the pressure ⚽️

Just minutes later, Jamie doubled the lead after a brilliant passing move starting with Joseph at the back and involving Banksy, Billy, Jamie and Ruben, before Jamie finished it off with another excellent left-foot strike from inside the box ⚽️

From there, the boys took control. Ruben and Luca were causing plenty of problems in the wide areas, with Ruben creating multiple opportunities from the right one of which ended with Luca hitting the woodwork after meeting Ruben’s cross at the back post.

Lucas then had a goal ruled out for offside before eventually getting his name on the scoresheet to make it 3–0 ⚽️

Sam added a fourth soon after with a powerful strike that proved too much for the Beamish goalkeeper. ⚽️

Beamish continued to battle and were limited mainly to a few long-range free-kicks, one of which struck the crossbar late on.

FT: Shincliffe Blues 4–0 Beamish Lions

A game of two very different halves, but huge credit to the boys for the way they responded after the break. The character, determination and quality shown in the second half got the job done against a good Beamish side.

🏆 Into the next round! 💙⚽️

RICHMOND AWAY

Following two tough opening games against strong Premier League opposition, the Shincliffe boys travelled to North Yorkshire on Saturday for an early kick-off against Richmond — a team we know very well after both sides earned promotion together from Division 1 last season.

The game started cautiously, with both teams battling hard across the pitch and very little to separate the sides.

Around 10 minutes in, Shincliffe were awarded a penalty after Lucas was fouled inside the area. Lucas stepped up with the chance to put the Shincliffe ahead, but unfortunately his effort struck the outside of the post.

Just minutes later, Richmond took the lead. A ball played in behind our defence and Joseph rushed out of his goal but was beaten to the ball by the striker and he finished well from the edge of the area ⚽️

Things then went from bad to worse as Richmond doubled their advantage just five minutes later. A cross into the box wasn’t dealt with and Richmond reacted quickest to finish from inside the six-yard box ⚽️

2–0 down and a mountain to climb but this Shincliffe team has shown time and time again that they don’t know when to give up and the response was immediate.

Some excellent combination play between Ruben and Sam opened the door, with Luca arriving at the back post to finish and give the Blues a much-needed lifeline. ⚽️

From there, the momentum began to shift. Shincliffe started asking serious questions of the Richmond defence, hitting the woodwork and going close on several occasions.

Then, right on the stroke of half-time, came the equaliser.

Ruben’s free-kick was delivered into a dangerous area and Adam produced a fantastic finish to bring the scores level at the break.

Half-time: Richmond 2–2 Shincliffe

The second half was a different story, with Shincliffe taking control for long spells and playing the majority of the football in Richmond’s half.

Midway through the half, the comeback was complete.

Ruben delivered a superb corner from the right and Sam rose highest at the back post to head home and put Shincliffe 3–2 ahead! ⚽️

Richmond pushed to get themselves back into the game, but the Shincliffe boys defended brilliantly and continued to look dangerous going forward.

Then, with just minutes remaining, the game was put beyond doubt.

Another Ruben free-kick from distance was struck with real power. The Richmond goalkeeper could only parry the effort and Adam was quickest to react, firing home his second of the morning to make it 4–2! ⚽️

Full-time: Richmond 2–4 Shincliffe Juniors Blues

For the third game running, these boys have shown incredible character and resilience. But this time, after coming from two goals behind, they got the reward they deserved.

Our first Premier League win. 🏆💙

A fantastic team performance from start to finish and a result that shows exactly what this group is capable of.

Plenty of hard work, plenty of character and a never-say-die attitude.

Absolutely brilliant, Shincliffe. 💙❤️

HERRINGTON - HOME

Game number two in the Premier League and another seriously tough test for the Shincliffe boys, facing a Herrington side who finished runners-up last season.

We knew we were in for another difficult game, and Herrington started strongly, playing a formation we haven’t been used to facing, with three players staying forward for much of the game. It caused us problems in the early stages and, unfortunately, we found ourselves 2–0 down inside the opening 15 minutes.

We soon began to settle and midway through the first half we started to compete much better in all areas of the pitch and create chances of our own.

We got ourselves back into the game when Lucas beat the offside trap and calmly slotted the ball past the Herrington goalkeeper.

The chances continued to come for Shincliffe and we were unlucky not to draw level on a couple of occasions. Herrington always looked dangerous with their pace in the forward areas, though, and they managed to restore their two-goal advantage just before half-time.

Half-time: Herrington 3–1 Shincliffe

The second half saw the boys come out fighting once again and we were right back in the game early in the second half when Jamie produced a fantastic free-kick from outside the area, curling it beautifully into the top corner. What a finish!

The game then really opened up, with chances at both ends. Herrington took advantage of a loose ball in the box after we failed to clear, and made no mistake to restore their two-goal lead.

But this group of lads simply would not give up.

Shincliffe showed incredible character and determination and reduced the deficit once again when Sam rounded the goalkeeper and finished off a brilliant team move.

With just five minutes remaining, the lads were on the front foot and pushing for an equaliser. We created a couple of glorious chances to make it 4–4, but unfortunately it wasn’t to be.

Herrington then sealed the win with their fifth goal after an individual error.

FULL-TIME: HERRINGTON 5–3 SHINCLIFFE

The result wasn’t what we wanted, but once again there is so much to be proud of.

Just our second ever game at Premier League level, against another of the division’s strongest sides, and the boys once again showed that they can mix it with the best teams in this league.

Well done Shincliffe 💙❤️

HEBBURN AWAY

An early start for the boys this morning with an 8:30am kick-off away at Hebburn — and we knew from the outset we were in for a seriously tough test.

Hebburn came into the game as Premier League champions, having won the title for the past two seasons, while this was Shincliffe’s first game in the Premier League after earning promotion from Division 1.

From the first whistle, Shincliffe were the better team in the first half, creating some really good chances but unfortunately unable to find the back of the net.

Then, just before half-time, Hebburn took the lead with a soft goal that could have easily been prevented. A frustrating way to go into the break after the boys had worked so hard and created the better opportunities.

The second half saw the lads continue to compete with Hebburn in every area of the pitch. They showed no fear, battled for every ball and continued to look a threat.

There was a huge moment in the game with around 10 minutes remaining when Sam was fouled inside the penalty area, but despite the contact, we weren’t awarded what looked like a clear penalty.

With the game still very much alive and end to end Hebburn eventually doubled their lead with a great long-range strike with under two minutes remaining.

The scoreline might not have gone our way, but there is so much to be proud of.

To come up from Division 1 and go toe-to-toe with the Premier League champions in our very first game at this level shows exactly what these boys are capable of.

A really positive performance, plenty of encouraging signs and a huge amount to build on.

Proud of every single one of them 👏🏻💙❤️

Twas the night before matchday, with boots by the door,
The kit bag was packed and the studs checked once more.
The pitch might be muddy, the wind blowing strong,
But after the summer, it’s where we belong.

The whistle will blow, and the battle begins,
The coaches stand ready and hopeful young shins.
Three points up for grabs, whatever the weather
For grassroots football, we’re back together. ⚽

PRE SEASON FRIENDLY ⚽️

It’s been a very quiet summer on the football front for the Shincliffe boys with everyone enjoying the well deserved summer holidays, but last night we finally managed to get enough of the boys together for a much needed pre season friendly in preparation for our opening fixture of the new season this coming Saturday. 🙌🏻⚽️

The opposition was Spennymoor formerly known as Escomb youth who we have faced on numerous occasions and were in our division last season. The games between the 2 sides have always been very competitive and a great challenge for both teams so this was a perfect fixture for the boys to get them back into competitive football.

We couldn’t have started the game any worse if we tried last night and found ourselves a goal down inside the first minute of the game when a soft foul inside the box gifted the opposition a penalty which was calmly converted ⚽️. The boys battled their way back into the game and soon drew level with a good finish by Adam⚽️. From this moment on the boys took control of the game and we found ourselves 3-1 up at the break with goals from Jamie and Ruben ⚽️⚽️

In the second half we upped the tempo again and further goals followed with Ruben grabbing his second of the evening ⚽️ and Lucas and Joshua also getting their names on the scoresheet ⚽️⚽️

Well done Shincliffe 💙❤️⚽️
