Here are the results from the weekend's Sunday League sweep event at Tyne United RC, to whom many thanks for hosting. Luckily for us the very heavy rain stopped just on cue at 12 noon and we stayed warm and dry for the rest of the day. The results indicate a very competitive final round at Tyne ARC on 4 October, when we are back to back to sculling splash 'n' dash. DARC members were in action last weekend in the 11th Great Tyne Row and at the Scottish Rowing Beach Sprint and Offshore Championships.
This year's Great Tyne Row had a Puffing Billy theme as 25 crews, some in fancy dress, took to the water at Newburn on Sunday for the gruelling 25km voyage to Tynemouth in a mixture of stable quads, coastal skiffs and outrigger canoes.
DARC entered a mixed coxed quad as well as being represented in two other composite quads all of which arrived safely on the beach at Tynemouth. Congratulations to Helen McMillan and Gill Prescott in the composite quad coxed by Dave Green, who won the Catherine Cookson Shield as the fastest Women's Boat.
Information about the Great Tyne Row can be found at https://www.greattynerow.com/
The Scottish Rowing Beach Sprint and Offshore Championships at East Sands Beach, St Andrews on Saturday and Sunday was open to Scottish Rowing and British Rowing members as well as to other visitors, and was a double-header forming the final round of the 2026 Four Nations Coastal Sculling Series, the English Beach Sprint round of which took place at South Shields in May.
DARC was represented by Dyfrig Williams in the Open 1x Beach Sprint, Seren Williams in the Women's under-19 Beach Sprint and Coastal 1x (held over a 4km course), and Seren Williams and Charlotte Foster in the under-19 Women's Coastal 2x.
Congratulations to Seren and Charlotte on winning gold in the Women's U19 Coastal 2x and Seren on winning silver in the Women's U19 Coastal 1x.
