Yoga is Nutrition too
How can we thrive, live well and have the energy to sustain our bodies nutritional needs?
I get it, work, life everything can sometimes feel a million miles an hour. I hear you!
So what am I talking about here? What are you refuelling your beautiful body and soul with?
Why? Because the yogis knew that what they ate affected the whole system, your energy levels, your mood, your hormones, your nervous system… basically everything!
This is not a point the finger at anyone post, not at all! I teach nutrition at my day job! I’m guilty too. It’s easier to pick up the thing, the quickest option, the fast food. It saves time, it’s fast, it’s engineered to be tasty and there’s no dishes.
However, what’s the cost? Not just finically? Imagine putting petrol into a diesel engine of your car! We all know what happens there, no you are not a car! However, your body has needs for everything to function optimally.
So I’m calling myself out here, looking at our first crop of pears 🍐 in the garden. I’m usually good, try to grow my own, cook/bake from scratch even when the work week has been too busy.
How do I make it work? . You’re full time and got a schedule outside of work to commit too.
I’ve tried all different ways. Over the last 20 years I have worked as a school teacher and believe you me, there’s been many late finishes, after work meetings yada yada… any ways.
I make time at weekends. I bulk cook/bake and freeze for through the week. I meal prep in advance. Yes, weekends are busy too, housework, shopping, family… you just have to fit it in and make the time.
Benefits and science show: Enhanced gut biodiversity and flora… these guys help your nervous system, immunity and so much more. Improved dietary fibre linked to reduced risks of cancer and more. You improve your vitamin and mineral intake too when you cook/bake from scratch. So If you can maybe trying growing in pots some fruit or tomatoes, maybe try cooking/baking from scratch! You might enjoy it, might not! Your body and mind will thank you for it if you do.
Happy growing, cooking and baking 🍐🍐🍐
