London Gliding Club hosted the Inter Club League (ICL) final recently - the Inter Club League is a friendly weekend competition between gliding clubs, designed to encourage cross-country flying. Here's our ICL captain's report:

ICL final results!
As some of you may already know, we placed second in the final (yes out of two…) in the ICL this weekend.
Most importantly our visitors reported having a fab time and everyone flew safely. There were some great performances from our pilots, especially the ones who programmed their moving maps correctly!
A highlight of the weekend was James who flew round the intermediate (200km) task in the club cross-country two-seater - his first experience of XC flying. He only had to use coach Ben's thermal-o-matic once, to get away from a low point at Bicester, and was recently spotted asking about the club local tasks so I think he’s got the XC bug.
Thank you to everyone who helped this year. Everyone who I approached gave their time extremely generously and I really appreciate all of your efforts. I look forward to attending the events next year with as many Dunstable pilots as I can muster.

Last weekend we said thank you, goodbye and all the best to our Kelly, who, together with sister Hayley, husband Adrian and a small but dedicated crew of brilliant people, has kept us fed and watered over the last few years. But this is not the end for the flyby_cafe - it'll continue to thrive under Hayley's expert leadership! 💪🏻

It has been a good day for LGC pilots at various competitions across the UK 🏆:

🥇 Ben Hudson looks set to win the day at the Club Class Nationals at Nympsfield in the Cotswolds

🥇 Tim Jenkinson has won the day at the Open Class Nationals at Husbands Bosworth

🥉 Nick Tillett has come third at the 15m Nationals, also at Husbands Bosworth, in Leicestershire

The recent extraordinary weather conditions are reflected in a large number of impressive cross-country flights by London Gliding Club members, with 🏆 Ed S. completing his first 750km flight in an 18m ASW28 - well done Ed! 🏆

📊 Overall stats for July and August:
92 scored XC flights in July, total distance 31,344km, with an average flight distance of 340km.
And for the first 2 (!) days of August: 20 flights, 9,051km total distance, 452km average flight distance.

The small, private event planned for this evening by the Loose Alliance Car Group has been cancelled. If you were planning to attend, we hope to welcome you to London Gliding Club soon!

Midsummer at LGC and we managed to fly almost from dawn till dusk.
With a clever crew shift system a safe extended flying day was made possible, everyone enjoyed themselves, several people converted to their first single-seater (the K23) or to the high performance cross-country single-seater (the Discus).

Just a reminder from Kelly and her team in the Cafe that their operating times are different to those of the club.

We’ve had a few queries lately about our opening hours being later on Google. Today we have found that this is because people are viewing the opening hours for The London Gliding Club and not actually us being The Fly-By Cafe. We apologise for confusion but we are two different places technically with differing operational hours.

So just to confirm we, The Fly-By Cafe, are open 8.30am-2pm 7 days a week!

Reminder also of our upcoming closure 22nd-31st May for competition week!
