๐ฅ๐ฅ CAN YOU KEEP THE INTENSITY GOING?
One attack is easy.
But can you immediately follow it with anotherโฆ and anotherโฆ without allowing the speed or intensity to disappear? โก
That's the challenge behind this Blitz drill.
The student is combining kicks and punches while maintaining continuous attacking pressure, developing the ability to transition rapidly from one technique to the next.
It's not simply about moving as fast as possible.
๐ต Explode into the attack
๐ต Link kicks and punches
๐ต Maintain forward pressure
๐ต Keep the intensity high
๐ต Finish the entire Blitz with purpose
Exercises like this help develop the speed, coordination, conditioning and attacking mindset required to keep working when one technique isn't enough.
๐ฅ Don't stop at the first attack. Follow it up. Keep the pressure on.

๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ FLYING THE FLAG IN SWITZERLAND! ๐จ๐ญ๐ฅ
What a performance from Connor McCluskey at the Basel International Open in Switzerland! ๐ฅ๐ฅ
Competing in Cadet Male Kumite -63kg, Connor stepped onto the tatami as the only Scottish athlete in his category, facing an international field featuring competitors from France, Holland, Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Italy.
And he delivered. ๐
๐ต 1st Round: Switzerland ๐จ๐ญ WIN 1โ0
Connor defeated the Swiss National Champion to open his campaign.
๐ต 2nd Round: Italy ๐ฎ๐น WIN 1โ0
๐ต Semi-Final: Germany ๐ฉ๐ช 2โ2
An incredibly tight contest, with Connor narrowly missing out on a place in the final.
๐ต Bronze Medal Match: Switzerland ๐จ๐ญ WIN 1โ0 ๐ฅ
Four international matches.
Three victories. And a BRONZE MEDAL coming home to Scotland! ๐
Results like this are about far more than the medal. They come from hours of training, travelling, competing, learning, and continually testing yourself against athletes from different countries.
For Connor to stand on an international podium in a field of this quality is another significant step forward in his development.
Congratulations, Connor: Basel International Open BRONZE MEDALLIST! ๐ฅ๐จ๐ญ
A fantastic performance and another international result to be proud of. ๐

๐จ๐ญ NEXT STOPโฆ BASEL! โ๏ธ๐ฅ
International competition calls once again! ๐
SPORT KARATE EAST is on the road, or more accurately, in the air! โ๏ธ heading to Switzerland for the BASEL International Open. ๐จ๐ญ
Another opportunity to step onto the international tatami, test ourselves against athletes from further afield and gain the kind of competition experience that can't be replicated in training.
๐ต Different country
๐ต Different opponents
๐ต Different challenges
๐ต Another opportunity to learn and develop
International competition isn't only about the result. It's about being prepared to travel, adapt, perform under pressure and represent your club every time you step onto the tatami.
The journey has started. โ๏ธ

๐ฅ KUMITE IS ABOUT MORE THAN JUST ATTACKING!
Can you recognise what's coming and react quickly enough? ๐โก
That's the challenge in this partner drill.
Both students are continuously involved, attacking, defending, managing distance and reacting to the movement of their opponent.
There is no static target and no standing waiting for your turn.
Instead, students have to:
๐ต Watch their opponent
๐ต Recognise the attack
๐ต Judge the distance
๐ต React defensively
๐ต Reset and be ready to go again
Punches and kicks create different problems to solve, encouraging students to make decisions rather than simply repeat a predetermined movement.
This is how we progressively develop the timing, reactions, distance management and confidence needed for Kumite.
๐ฅ See it. Read it. React.
๐ฅ WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOUR REACTIONS ARE FASTER THAN THE CAMERAMAN? ๐ฅ๐
This drill looks simpleโฆ
Watch the mitt. ๐
Wait for the drop.
React.
PUNCH! โก๐ฅ
We're developing reaction speed, timing, hand-eye coordination and the ability to respond instantly to a visual stimulus.
But this particular attempt had an ending nobody planned forโฆ ๐
The reaction was so fast and the punch so committed that the mitt flew straight towards the person filming and knocked the camera out of their hand! ๐ฑ๐ฅ
Sometimes the best moments in training are the ones you simply couldn't script.
๐ฅ SPORT KARATE EAST
Developing reactions. Building confidence. Creating karateka.
