Pony Therapy brings smiles to Canning Place

People supported by Hillcrest Futures' Canning Place service in Dundee recently enjoyed a visit from therapy ponies Flicker and Winston.

Paul, Chris, Harry, John and Tamara spent time with the gentle pair and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Organised by Support Worker Carole Stewart, the session gave everyone the chance to interact with the ponies, whose calm and friendly nature made for a relaxing and enjoyable afternoon.

Canning Place is a small group home supporting people with learning disabilities, and activities like these provide opportunities to try new experiences, build confidence and enjoy time together.

A big thank you to Carole, Flicker and Winston for making the day so special. πŸ΄πŸ’™

**Could Police Scotland Youth Volunteers (PSYV) help you discover your potential?**

For many young people, volunteering is much more than giving back to the community – it's an opportunity to build confidence, make new friends and develop valuable life skills.

Olivia, a member of PSYV in Edinburgh, joined the programme hoping to overcome social anxiety and improve her confidence. Since then, she’s volunteered at major events including the Royal Highland Show, and the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, taken part in cyber safety training, and even been promoted to Head Youth Volunteer.

PSYV gives young people aged 13-17 the chance to:
- Support their local communities
- Take part in exciting events and projects
- Learn new skills and build confidence
- Make friends and create lasting connections
- Gain valuable volunteering experience

If you or a young person you know would like to get involved, find out more about joining Police Scotland Youth Volunteers here: https://www.scotland.police.uk/about-us/what-we-do/police-scotland-youth-volunteers/

🏑 Two new accessible homes delivered in Dundee

A former Hillcrest Futures residential support service at Hillbank Road has been transformed into two high-quality, wheelchair-accessible homes, helping to meet the growing need for accessible housing in Dundee.

The refurbishment has created a one-bedroom and a three-bedroom home, featuring energy-efficient technologies including solar panels, battery storage and air source heat pumps. The project also marked a significant milestone for Hillcrest Enterprises' Maintenance department, which acted as main contractor for a development project for the first time.

By bringing together expertise from across Hillcrest, the project has not only delivered much-needed homes but also helped develop new skills and capabilities that will support future sustainable housing projects.
