Following ongoing discussions around the gap after U18 youth football, we are exploring the introduction of a regional U20/U21 league across Dundee, Angus, Perthshire & Fife for the 2026/27 season.

It is with the heaviest of hearts we can share a devastating loss. Our 2015s player Charlie Melville has sadly passed away after a short battle with illness.

Charlie was always bubbly and smiley especially when playing football. Charlie was a massive part of our 2015s and his loss will be felt throughout Fairmuir.

Everyone at Fairmuir pass on our deepest condolences to the family.

Following on from recent discussions around the gap after U18s youth football, an open meeting will take place to explore the introduction of a regional U20/U21 pathway covering Dundee, Angus, Perthshire, and Fife.

The purpose of this meeting is not to ask clubs to commit teams at this stage.
It is to outline the proposed introduction of a U20/U21 pathway for the 2026/27 season and to gather input from clubs, coaches, and the wider football community on how it should be structured and delivered.

The meeting is being facilitated with the involvement of executive committee members from the relevant associations, to support a clear and appropriate transition for players progressing from youth football into adult football.

The meeting will focus on:

• The current gap after U18s and why it exists
• A proposed regional U20/U21 model for upcoming 2026/27 season
• How this pathway would sit alongside existing leagues
• What clubs would be asked to consider during the 2025/26 planning year
• Open discussion and feedback

This invitation is being shared with club decision-makers, and clubs are encouraged to pass it on to youth coordinators, current coaches, and anyone who may be interested in being involved with a future U20 or U21 side.

Across our region, youth football currently ends at U18s and for many players the next step is not clear.

Players are still developing. They are technically strong, still growing physically, and not always ready for open-age football. Too often, this is where lads drift away from the game, or move into adult football earlier than is ideal because there is no structured step in between.

As a youth coach who has been with the same group of players from Fun Fours through to U18s, I have seen this challenge first-hand and it is one shared by clubs across the region.

That is why discussions are now underway to explore a regional U20 / U21 Development League, open to clubs across Dundee, Angus, Perthshire, and Fife, with coordination based in Dundee.

These conversations involve:
• DDYFA
• DSMFL
• Saturday afternoon leagues
• Sunday leagues

The aim is not to replace anything that already exists.
It is to add a clear and credible step between youth and adult football.

The proposal is:

• Full 11-a-side football

• Age-appropriate squads around 17 to 20 or 21

• Competitive games with development at the centre, with the ambition to align to recognised regional and national competitions over time

• A platform for players who want to continue developing with the potential to step into junior or semi-professional football, while also supporting those who want to keep playing at a good level during those final years into adulthood

The plan would be to start small, around eight to ten teams, test it properly in year one, and grow it if it proves its value.

An open night will take place on March 11th, where coaches, players, parents, and managers are invited to hear the idea and help shape it. Format, fixtures, rules, and structure will all be open for discussion.

East Region Cup – Quarter Final 🏆

After last week’s Scottish Cup heartache, the response mattered.

A big performance against a strong Jeanfield side, unbeaten in the league.
Earlier in the season they edged us on penalties, today the lads responded.

On to the Semi-Final in a huge competition.
