After Review - Decision is red card 🟥

Photos from Ryan Stirton - Online Coach.'s post 08/07/2026

In my journey of exploring all sorts of types of fitness goals over the past 15 years. I’ve tried it all. And the recurring theme for me as has been…

That I’ve never been a natural.

I’ve not started something and ever been great.

I’m not just saying that. Genuinely.

Running, was always a struggle.

Swimming, was shocking.

Getting in shape, I struggled for years.

HYROX, first few solo races were shockers.

Triathlon, back brake got stuck on and I crawled over the line.

But the thing that I’ve been able to lean into time and time again to find results is this 👇🏻

And this is gonna sound really boring.

But it’s being willing to go through these steps 👉🏼

Step 1️⃣

Be s**t at first. And learn the technical side.

Step 2️⃣

Lock into a base building phase for as long as that takes. If the event is new to me, or I’m lacking in aerobic fitness. This could be 6 months.

Do the boring work. Feel little to no return to start, but just keep going.

Step 3️⃣

Layer in the intensity. You don’t get to thrive with full send sessions and massive volume until you’ve done step 1 and 2.

Step 4️⃣

Test it.
Race, testing or send it. See how far you’ve come.

The issue I see time and time again is people skip all the way to step 3 or 4.

And end up in a never ending cycle of falling short.

If you want the results like you see on the for you page, get ready to lock in for years not months.

It’s not want anyone wants to hear, but it’s how the best get their results. Both professional athletes and everyday.

You say you want ❌ goal = but are you willing to show up repeatedly for long enough to see it happen.

Every single impressive person you see out there has done that.

You just see the end goal, not what came before.

Another happy athlete coming through the doors of team 9-5.

We work with athletes from all different sports and goals.

And refereeing is one where fitness is becoming more and more important.

Especially at the level Abbie works at.

The fitness test isn’t easy, and Abbie has to pass the top levels men’s test.

But she’s in a great position to go and tackle it now and start this season. 🤜🏼

We took control of Abbie’s training 10 weeks ago and made some changes 👇🏻

👉🏼 Moved away from constant Red Zone training and controlled paces and intensity. Threshold work was prioritised in the first block before moving back into more top end stuff.

👉🏼 We tested where her fitness actually was before we started to figure this out. Great top end but lacking durability.

👉🏼 Built in strength work alongside this in a systemised way that didn’t compromise the running.

👉🏼 We’ve seen notable improvements across all metrics. 📈

Thank you for putting in the work 🫱🏻‍🫲🏽 ⚽️

The Athlete Scholarship 📈

I release a free slot for our coaching for 6 months every single year at least once!

But this year we’re doing it a little differently - idea stolen from REDON! I must state.

We’ll be releasing 2 spots - one for a male and one for a female athlete.

And the process of choosing who wins will be done through application.

You’ll win services for 6 months up to the value of £1000! 💰

Coaching and support that will help you get to another level as a everyday athlete. That just wouldn’t be possible without the support.

The steps are simple!

👉🏼 Comment “Scholarship” in the comments or tag someone you think would benefit.

👉🏼 Re-Post, Share On Story and tag us!

Then we will DM you with an info pack and an application form ✍🏻

The application will take 5-10 mins.

We’ll then take entries all the way up to July 16th before deciding who the winners are from there!

All the best with the comp! 🏁

It’s a mistake I’ve made time and time again.

Even a couple of months back…👇🏻

It’s being led by ego in races, not data.

Some simple examples of this 🫣

👉🏼 Seeing someone else’s time on a 10km race, and thinking I can match or beat it.

👉🏼 Trying to hold pace with someone faster than you just because your “competitive”

👉🏼 trying to replicate the standard of someone else on instagram just because you think you can.

👉🏼 Getting excited and flying out the blocks. Being first to the ski isn’t a flex bro.

I’ve done it all. And it comes from football. Trying harder than than guy next to me was always what drove me. I’ve got by on hard work so much that it still takes over my decision making at times.

❌ But that’s where so many people then go wrong in sports like running, Hyrox and lifting weights.

Ego, status and hard work only work to a point.

Then what happens is they try to fake it to you that you’re fitter than you are.

Next thing you know you’ve blown up in a race and you ruin the whole plan.

That’s why it’s so important to have data driven/smart decision making from a coach when it comes to races and events.

So you don’t get carried away and think you’re fitter than you are.

Pacing and strategy are key 🔑

You can’t just magic up fitness on race day you don’t have through hard work. 🐶

Don’t make the same mistake I’ve made time and time again and get excited on the start line and think you’ve got more in the tank than you actually do.

And ruin that race you’ve been working so hard for.

Anyone guess what has done here with his gel?
