On 29th August 2026, some of our coaches will be joining an incredible group of people as we take on a 24-hour charity challenge

Together, we’ll be aiming to:
🏋️ Lift a combined 1,500,000kg
🏃 Run a combined 234 miles

We’re doing this to raise money for Prostate Scotland following the heartbreaking diagnosis of our friend Grant, who has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer that has aggressively spread to his bones.

The 234-mile run will also be completed in memory of David Parrish, who sadly lost his life while attempting to break the unassisted record on the Cape Wrath Trail.

The challenge begins at 6:00am on Saturday 29th August and finishes at 6:00am on Sunday 30th August. For the full 24 hours, our team will be lifting and running continuously as we push ourselves to reach our goal.

Heston Rovers 1–4 Milton Rovers

Heston Rovers welcomed Milton Rovers to St Joe’s this morning for our second match of the season, looking to build on last week’s excellent comeback cup victory and continue our positive start.

We knew we would have to be at our best against a very well-coached Milton Rovers side, and from the first whistle the visitors showed exactly why. Milton started brightly, putting Heston under pressure and making the opening 20 minutes difficult for the boys as they struggled to match the intensity of the visitors.
Milton turned their early pressure into goals, taking a 2–0 lead. The score could have been even greater had it not been for some outstanding goalkeeping from Blair, who produced a brilliant top corner save from a free kick before also stopping Milton attackers in two one-on-one situations.

As the half progressed, Heston began to find their rhythm and started putting some pressure of their own on the Milton defence. Freddie came close with a free kick from the edge of the box, shooting narrowly wide.
Then, moments later, Brody delivered an excellent cross into the middle, finding Harris, who swivelled neatly inside the box before firing the ball into the net to give Heston a much-needed lift and get us back into the game.

The second half began with Heston still looking a little scrappy and disjointed in possession. An early ball into the box saw Brody rise between the centre-backs to nod the ball into Henry’s path, with Henry then calmly knocking it past the keeper. Unfortunately, the celebrations were short-lived as the referee ruled the goal offside in a very tight decision.

Milton continued to threaten down the right-hand side, and their winger was brought down inside the box as he cut in, resulting in a penalty. Milton stepped up and converted from the spot to restore their two-goal advantage. Blair did brilliantly to get a hand to the effort but was unable to keep it out.

Milton then added a fourth after a foul out on the wing gave them the opportunity to deliver a dangerous free kick into the box. The resulting cross was met by a Milton player, who headed home to make it 4–1.
The closing stages became scrappy as both teams battled hard. Heston never stopped fighting and continued to look for a way back into the game, while Milton defended their advantage and saw the result through to the final whistle.

Credit to the boys for continuing to battle right until the end in a game where we simply didn’t reach our usual standard of football. Some of that was down to Milton, who produced a very strong display and made life difficult for us throughout.

There are lessons to take from today, and the boys will learn from the experience as we look to bounce back strongly in next week’s fixture. 💪⚽
⭐ Player of the Match – Blair

A superb performance from BK between the sticks today. Blair produced save after save to keep Heston in the game, especially during Milton’s strongest spells, while his distribution was also excellent throughout.
Well done BK – a top-class goalkeeping performance! 🧤👏

CLYFA Challenge Cup

What a way to begin our first ever competitive 11-a-side season!

Heston 2014 welcomed Motherwell Phoenix to St Joe’s this morning for our opening CLYFA Challenge Cup fixture, and the boys arrived excited, focused and ready to make history.

From the first whistle, the match was played at a very high tempo, with both teams showing plenty of energy, determination and quality throughout.
First Half
Heston started brightly and created the better of the early chances.
Brody was the first to threaten, breaking through the lines to latch onto an excellent through ball from Freddie, but the Motherwell goalkeeper was equal to it with a fine save.
The best chance of the half came when Rocco beat his man on the edge of the box, touched the ball inside and unleashed a powerful effort which cannoned off the underside of the crossbar. Calvin reacted quickest to the rebound but could only head over.
The midfield trio of Rocco, Freddie and Lewis were outstanding throughout the first half, combining really well, moving the ball forward and creating opportunities for the team.
At the back, Daniel Hart produced another defensive masterclass. He was exceptional at full-back, repeatedly shutting down attacks and nullifying almost everything Motherwell tried to create down his side.
Motherwell did have a big chance of their own when they won a free-kick on the edge of the box. Up stepped Blair, who produced a top-class save, covering the ground brilliantly to tip the effort around the post.
The half finished 0–0, with both teams giving everything.
Second Half
Heston made one change at the break, with Jett coming on for Calvin and Harris moving back to the right wing.
The second half immediately picked up where the first had left off, with the tempo remaining extremely high.
Motherwell came out strongly and put Heston under pressure. The boys struggled initially to play their way out from the back, with some sloppy play creating problems of our own.
Unfortunately, Motherwell punished us when a corner was allowed to travel right across the box without being dealt with, and Phoenix reacted quickest at the back post to put the visitors 1–0 ahead.
This was the moment where the real character of this Heston team came to the fore.
The boys could easily have folded, but they didn’t.
Instead, they dug deep, fought for every ball and worked tirelessly for one another. Even when they were riding their luck at times, every player continued to give absolutely everything.
Then came the equaliser.
Heston won a free-kick on the edge of the box and, with confidence in his ability, Freddie stepped up. Our free-kick specialist kept his composure and fired a superb low effort into the bottom corner.
1–1!
Suddenly, the belief was back.
Lewis continued to graft right until the final whistle, repeatedly breaking up Motherwell attacks and covering huge amounts of ground. Daniel remained a rock at full-back, while James also produced a very good performance at the back.
And then came the moment everyone will remember.
With time running out, Heston won a corner. Brody delivered the ball into a crowded box, it bounced around dangerously, and Jett reacted brilliantly, turning and firing the ball into the net!
2–1 HESTON!
Absolute scenes.
The boys had completed the turnaround.
The final whistle soon followed, confirming a 2–1 victory in Heston 2014’s first ever competitive 11-a-side match.
A Team Performance
The coaches couldn’t have been prouder of the boys today.
Not just because of the result, but because of how they responded to adversity.
They were put under pressure, went behind, had difficult moments and could easily have lost their shape or heads. Instead, they stuck together, fought for each other and showed unbelievable character to turn the game around.
Football is a team game, and today the boys showed exactly what that means.
While there were some outstanding individual performances, the biggest positive was the collective effort from every single player. The boys who started, the boys who came on and everyone who contributed at different stages all played their part in a fantastic team victory.
⭐ Player of the Match – Daniel Hart
It was incredibly difficult to choose a Player of the Match after such an impressive collective performance, but today the award goes to Daniel Hart.
Another outstanding, hardworking masterclass at full-back. Daniel was strong, composed and relentless, dealing with attack after attack and giving absolutely everything for the team.
Well deserved, Daniel! 👏

Season opener 💥🔥⚽️🏆

Heston Rovers 2014 9–2 Stamperland City

With the CLYFA Challenge Cup kicking off next week, Heston Rovers 2014 continued their preparations with a pre-season test against Stamperland City at Maryfield, with three 30-minute periods providing the boys with valuable minutes in their legs ahead of the new season.

First Period

Heston started the game on the front foot, showing some excellent football in the opening 30 minutes. The boys found plenty of success with a shorter passing game, combining with quick one-twos and creating a number of half chances.

The opening goal came after a fantastic driving run from Freddie saw his effort crash back off the post, with Brody quickest to react and calmly slot home the rebound.

At the other end, the back four of Daniel, Shay, Jack and Connor stood firm, mopping up Stamperland’s attacks and limiting their opportunities. Daniel and Shay were particularly impressive in the full-back positions, while Blair’s distribution from goal was excellent and played a big part in helping Heston build from the back.

There was a spell where Heston perhaps became guilty of trying to force the final ball over the top and into the channels, moving away from the passing game that had created so much success earlier in the period.

Stamperland eventually found an equaliser, with a ball played into their striker, who did brilliantly to create space and fire home from a tight angle.

The first period finished 1–1, with plenty of positives for the Heston boys.

Second Period

Heston started the second period slowly, with Stamperland taking the initiative and playing on the front foot. The boys were guilty of some sloppy play at times and again tried to force the final pass rather than trusting the passing game that had served them so well.

Despite that, the defence continued to stand strong and restricted Stamperland to very few meaningful chances.

The lapse was short-lived, however, as Heston’s midfield soon clicked into gear and began to dominate possession.

Rocco, Lewis and Freddie took the game to another level, combining fantastic work off the ball with some excellent football when in possession.

As the quality of Heston’s play improved, so did the goals.

Henry grabbed two goals while working tirelessly in the lone striker role, while Rocco added two of his own. His first was a fantastic strike high into the net, while his second came at the end of a superb move that he himself started, with Brody providing the final assist from a brilliant cross.

The second period finished 5–1 to Heston, a fantastic response from the boys and a huge shift from every player.

Third Period

The challenge going into the final 30 minutes was simple: could the boys maintain the levels they had shown throughout the game?

They certainly rose to the challenge.

Although tired legs began to show as the period went on, Heston continued to play on the front foot. Freddie remained a constant threat with his powerful driving runs, helping to keep the team moving forward, while the whole squad dug deep to maintain their intensity.

Four more goals followed.

Brody added another, Henry completed his hat-trick, and Harris deservedly got himself on the scoresheet after another hugely impressive display.

The final goal was particularly special as Lewis scored his first goal at 11-a-side since signing for the club. It was a well-deserved moment for the wee man after another industrious performance in the middle of the park.

Stamperland managed to grab a late goal in the dying minutes, but it did little to take away from an excellent overall performance from Heston.

The coaches were delighted with the overall team performance.

There was plenty of individual quality on show throughout the game, but it was the overall quality and contribution of the whole squad that ultimately earned Heston an impressive victory.

With the CLYFA Challenge Cup now just around the corner, there were plenty of encouraging signs, particularly in the way the boys responded to difficult spells, found their passing game again and continued to work for each other right until the final whistle.

A high-quality display from Rocco in the middle of the park. Combative and energetic without the ball, while showing real quality and composure when in possession. A deserved Player of the Match award after an excellent all-round performance.
