Do you know what qualifications I have… do you know what licenses I have? Do you know the difference?!
There is a massive difference between a qualification and a license. Let me educate…
🎓 QUALIFICATIONS
A qualification demonstrates that an instructor has completed training and assessment in a particular area of fitness. This might include group exercise, exercise to music, personal training, Pilates or other specialist disciplines. It provides the knowledge and skills needed to teach safely and effectively within the scope of that qualification. Qualifications take a lot of time and money.
📋 LICENCES
A licence is permission to teach a specific branded fitness programme or format. Some programmes require instructors to attend specialist training, pass assessments, pay licence fees and keep their licence up to date to continue teaching under that brand. A license may be done online, may only take a few hours or a day to complete. It most certainly does not give you the in-depth knowledge that a qualification does.
💪 EXPERIENCE MATTERS TOO!
Qualifications and licences are important, but so is experience. Knowing how to adapt exercises, offer alternatives, recognise different abilities and create a welcoming, inclusive environment comes from ongoing learning and working with real people.

Fitness is my profession, not just a hobby. I’ve spent years investing in my training, qualifications, licences and continued development so I can bring a variety of classes to our JLF community.
I believe you deserve an instructor who takes your safety seriously, understands what they are teaching and continues to develop their knowledge.
And remember, you don’t need to be the fittest or the most experienced person in the room. You just need to turn up and give it a go.
