📢 𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 📢

After 10 years of working with horses, including the last 5 years running Brooke’s Equine Services, I’ve made the decision to take my career in a different direction and keep horses as my hobby rather than my full time work.

This has been a bittersweet decision, Brooke’s Equine Services has been a huge part of my life, it was the business I built from nothing while on maternity leave with my now 6 year old daughter and have successfully ran since, and closing this chapter is very difficult. However, I’m looking forward to what the future holds on a new career path.

I want to say a big thank you to every person who has supported my business over the years. Whether you’ve used my services, recommended me to others, shared my posts, or simply supported me, I appreciate it all!

Through B.E.S I’ve had the privilege of working with many wonderful horses, some lovely dogs from my pet sitting days, and some lovely people, a few who have become friends.

The page will remain open, as I may still take on the occasional ad-hoc booking when time allows. However, freelance services will no longer be available on a regular basis, and messages won’t be monitored frequently. Brooke’s Equine Services last day of operation will be Saturday 29th August.

Head to hoof clip done for Rebel today 🫧

Rebel was very hairy in his winter woolies 🧤 This was finally completed on our 3rd attempt! 👏🏼
Attempt 1 (with sedation): Got Rebels legs & face off, but his body was too sweaty for the clippers to get through him without snagging.
Attempt 2 (no sedation): As soon as the clippers took 1 stroke over his coat he became very uncomfortable and not safe to proceed.
Attempt 3 (with sedation again): Started with a medium blade, but his coat was just too greasy (advised to bath next time) an thick for that blade to get through him so we switched to a covercote blade with wider teeth and finally we got the clip done 🥳✔️ ✔️

The finish of a covercote blade is slightly less polished than a medium or fine blade, but it can be a great option for some horses. A few reasons being; if you want your horse to have more hair left on, such as for warmth, or less sharp in ridden work, or to achieve a more natural look and avoid the shaved look. Or if you have a horse with a very thick or matted coats such horses with cushings.

So pleased we got this completed with some perseverance and now Rebel can feel a lot more comfortable and cool coming into the warmer weather ☀️

Hi all,

I apologise in advance, as I hate raising my prices, but after keeping them lower than average for the past couple of years I’ve put a slight increase on clipping prices this year to align them closer to average prices. Each clip has risen by (£2.50-£5.00).

Clipping prices will now be as follows:

Bib clip: £17.50 horse / £15 pony
Irish clip: £20 horse / £17.50 pony
Trace clip: £25 horse / £20 pony
Blanket clip: £30 horse / £25 pony
Hunter clip (head+legs on): £35 horse / £25 pony
Full clip (head+legs off): £45 horse / £35 pony
Legs off on their own: £20.00

When enquiring, please provide the following:
•Horse or pony?
•What kind of clip would you like?
•Is your horse/pony good to clip? Any sensitive
areas or behaviours that I should be aware of?
•Anything else that I should be aware of?
•Yard location and (if applicable) preferred days and times.

For your information:
Mains operated clippers (no cordless currently sorry!)
All clips finished with an optional hot cloth, using oil containing Panthenol and Collagen to strengthen and moisturise coat, different scents to choose from.
Based in Desford LE9, covering Leicestershire.

All horses need to be presented clean for their clip. A bath prior to clipping is preferable, but I understand not everyone has bathing facilities, in this case a hot cloth is appreciated or at the very least a good elbow grease groom with a curry comb to release dirt. Particularly from the hind end.
Any horse that is too dirty or is wet on arrival can be refused or a 'Grubby GG' charge can be added towards blade maintenance.
Muddy, greasy and wet hair can not only make clipping uncomfortable for your horse, but it also blunts clipper blades and can damage the motor.

I own the right to refuse any horse/pony who I feel poses a danger or risk to myself, equipment or others. Any undesirable behaviour traits or vices need to be disclosed prior to arrival. If I arrive to a horse that I cannot proceed with, you will not be charged for the clip but will be charged a fee for travel and time. Owners will be liable if any damage is caused to my equipment by their horse/pony, it will be their responsibility to reimburse me for replacement or repair costs.

Adara used to be one of my regulars for clipping but due to a yard move I hadn’t seen her In a while, she was as good as gold just as she used to be for me and it was lovely to see her again 💛

🗣️ Just a work update / announcement 🗣️

For the past couple of years, I’ve been employed at a livery yard, working there on a Sunday morning. However, the yard manager has recently decided that the yard will no longer be providing livery services at weekends. Because of this, I’ve made the decision to take this on independently through my own business, to keep providing the liveries with a reliable and quality service.

This means I’ll now be working both weekend days at the livery yard, so I won’t be taking on any additional freelance work (such as clipping, holiday cover, or yard cover) at weekends. I have also made the decision to take on no new clients, because I want to ensure that my regular client-base are prioritised.

I understand I may lose some clients because of this, but for those who wish to stick with me, I will do my best to accommodate and make sure you still get the same great service. I appreciate all the support, thank you ✨✨

Full head to hoof clip for Charlie boy, with some freehand clipper art doing a ♥️ on one side and a ⭐️ on the other for his fab young jockey, followed by a bathing service so he’s all clean for his show jumping competition tomorrow 🧼 good luck to you both 😍
