Westport Olympic distance National series race ๐๐ด๐ป๐โโ๏ธ๐ฅ๐ฅ
Myself and Colin Mc Cormack headed to Westport to take on the national series Olympic distance race on Saturday and went away two happy lads ๐ช
Colin has been super consistent in his training and race performances all year and continues to reap the rewards, with an aim of going sub 2 hours 20 mins before the race, itโs fair to say he smashed that with a 2:11 and a top 30 finished in a seriously stacked nationals field, and to top it off Colin picked up a 3rd place in his AG ๐ฅ๐ช well deserved!
I was happy to be able to put in a strong performance also and rounding out the top 10 of a quality start list, 1st in AG ๐ฅand some of the best times and performance Iโve produced in 14 years in the sport, slowly slowly getting faster each year ๐
Itโs true that when you keep showing up, be smart, and put the work in while enjoying it along the way the performances follow ๐ช
Itโs a nice feeling to share success with the training partners and Atheltes you coach you spend hours in the lashing rain with through the winter ๐ช

Massive well done to on completing the Donegal quadrathon, 4 half marathons in 4 days on some of donegals toughest roads!
Carla came to me looking for a plan for this event that she could follow alongside maintaining her CrossFit training, not an easy task training for two demanding events but we were smart about it and build up the running progressively and consistently with focus on preparing for the demands of the events with some big race aim weekends that focused on good pacing and nutrition and fuelling to meet the demands! Fair to say Carla smashed it!
Well done Carla! ๐ช๐๐

Dale Robson You are an Ironman! ๐ช๐๐
Ironman Kalmar Sweden โ
Sub 14 hours!
13:59:39 ๐
What a journey itโs been for Dale, with a very busy work and family life, the key was always consistency and building a solid foundation all over the winter, Dale bought in to training with intensity control, took time to understand the training and what we were looking for from each session, played it smart and trusted the process. The build up wasnโt without injuries, illness, work commitments, travel, family life, but that is all apart of the game and Dale managed it extremely well to get himself to the start line ready to rock.
I think one of the biggest obstacles was the open water swimming, with no real swim background Dale worked hard in the pool all winter and made great progress but unfortunately the open water can be a different beast and bring its own challenges, once open water season started Dale hit a big hurdle when he was struggling to swim any sort of distance in open water, in May he attempted to take on a 3km open water swim and had to pull the plug after 200m, short of breath and panicked he couldnโt seem to settle at all in open water, he was worried and rightly so the Ironman was only 2 and half months away and he would have to swim 3.8km. But Dale was adamant he would get it, so we met one morning 6:30am at the lough and we figured out what was causing the panicked breathing and open water issues, that day Dale swam 600m comfortable, that night he went to open water again and swam 1500m! And from then on he did not miss an opportunity to improve his open water skills, in in the last few weeks he swam multiple 3.5-4km swims comfortably. With some guidance, plenty of belief in yourself and a lot of hard work, great things can happen!
Itโs not just about the race day and that finish line, itโs all the battles overcome beforehand that make you an Ironman ๐ well done Dale, so well deserved, buzzing for you! ๐๐ช
Whatโs next? ๐๐คฃ
Also shoutout to Paddy Glenn my old school friend and Dales training partner for smashing it also ๐ช

Para National Champs 2026!๐ฎ๐ช
A few weeks ago omagh tri club hosted the para national champs where we had another para Athelte on the coaching roster alongside Chloe for this race, I started working with Gabi last month, Gabi competes in the PTWC (wheelchair category) and is an aspiring Paralympian, weโre early in the journey but itโs kicked off with a national title and another step in the right direction to international racing ๐ช well done Gabi VR | PTWC1 ๐ฎ๐ช , letโs go!! ๐ฅ
Chloe was also in action placing second in the PTVI category ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ช
Gabi VR | PTWC1 ๐ฎ๐ช crossing the line! ๐๐
Chloe MacCombe PLY and Jemma Speers crossing the line at the para national champs ๐ช
Joseph Coyle crossing the line as consistent as ever with strong performance in 1:14:24 ๐
Colin Mc Cormack with a top 10 finish and 2nd in AG with a super time 1:08:49 ๐ช
Michael Holland with a brilliant 8th place overall in his home race in a time of 1:07:48 and 3rd in AG, brilliant Mick! ๐ช
Martin finishing in a super time of 1:26:04 and showing big improvements across the board on last year ๐
Conan Murray finished in 1:14:54, a solid time although far from his best this race was about coming back and completing what he started after a very bad bike crash here a few years ago that left Conan with broken ribs and collar bone and bad cuts, surgery and a long road to recovery heโs back fighting fit and can put those demons to bed now heโs come back and conquered it, Goodman Conan! ๐ช
New recruit just last month Daniel Moore finishing in 1:17:24, looking forward to working with Daniel and bringing him on leaps and bounds, an Athelte with great potential ๐
Rory finishing in a solid 1:16:29 ๐ช
coming home in 1:43:08, a 2 mins improvement on last year, and continuing in the right direction ๐ช
Lucy McDermott and the lads post race!

I was also racing myself in the national sprint champs in two provinces and Hazelwood Olympic distance the week after in Sligo.
These were my main two races for the season, they were two races that had me really motivated in training, after my last race in Cavan at the start of June I was really motivated to perform well in these races, the things i focused on which I personally needed to was better sleep, more sleep and being more consistent week to week, I didnโt do anything different training wise but just a little bit more consistent and more recovery (whoโd have thought) but after 14 years in this sport those were probably my two best performanceโs, and while Iโll always look for ways I could have done better in races or moments I could have done cuz I can say I was pretty happy with those two performances and couldnโt have asked any more of myself on the days, itโs important to take time sometimes and appreciate what youโve done relative to yourself, your circumstances, your goals etc.
National sprint champs - 12th overall in 1:03:30 and 3rd in Age group, in a race where the top 50 where all sub 1:10, National champs AG podium goal โ
Hazelwood Olympic 2:10:33, 3rd overall and thereโs alway a first for everything because I ran myself into the podium from 4th to 3rd in the last 1km, and had the 3rd fastest run of the day ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Shoutout to ryanlundy storming the course at Hazelwood too taking the win! ๐ช

Late July race roundups ๐๐ด๐ป๐
Chloe continued her positive progression on the international scene with new guide Jemma in hamburg with a solid 6th place finish, results on paper donโt always show the small wins and progressions behind the scenes immediately but when you donโt give up and keep sowing the right seeds with patience you will reap the rewards.
In the National sprint championships at the two provinces Lucy had a great race and battle with the other girls in her AG but just narrowly missing out on the 3rd spot, Lucy is so adaptive across distances jumping from ultra events to sprint distances and holding her own across them all, Lucy then went on to race the London T100 where she finished 5th in her AG and qualified for the T100 world champs! Next up for Lucy???โฆ..just a wee Ironman to finish the season! ๐ well done Lucy Great going!
In Hazelwood Olympic distance we had Deaglan and wife Jane lining up to race together, this was Janeโs first open water triathlon and as somebody who was worried about the swim, the last few weeks she really put her mind to conquering it and it showed on race day even with a few mishaps of swim caps slipping off and hair bobbles nipping ๐
3hrs 17 on a tough and hot course, well done Jane!
Deags put in a super performance going 18mins faster from the last time he raced here two years ago! Which just shows the progression across the board! 2:42 ๐ช well done boss! Both are in their final preps for Zell am See 70.3 in a few weeks!
Noelle Lynch was also in Sligo for her first Olympic distance (as Athy was shortened) and put in a solid race as she prepares for her 70.3, 3:41 on a tough course and hot day is perfect prep! Well done Noelle!

EJX2 Athelte race reports ๐โโ๏ธ๐ต๐
We were all over the country and world again this weekend past.๐ฎ๐ช๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ช
On Saturday Noelle took on the beast of a bike course that is Sheephaven 70.3 as part of a relay race as she prepares for a 70.3 later in the season, 70.3 bike courses donโt come much tougher than Sheephaven so a great stepping stone and progression in her training to nail it ๐ช
Lucy was at the harbourman in Wicklow at the standard distance National champs where she unfortunately just missed out on a podium in her AG and placing 4th, but still a solid performance off the back of a few big events, well done Lucy!
All the way across the Atlantic Chloe and Jemma were racing in World Series para triathlon Montreal as they continue their partnership as a new pairing, gaining more race experience together on the big stage, a 6th place finish in a stacked field and more learnings and experience gained to take with them into Hamburg in a few weeks ๐ช
Back across the pond to the inferno Frankfurt Sean mc Carron was geared up to take on his first Ironman, unfortunately due to the extreme heat the race was shorted as a full swim, 120km bike and a 21km run. Disappointing when you have your sights set on becoming and Ironman but no doubt another one wonโt be far away that heโll smash, adapting to the new distance Sean stuck to the plan, managed the heat very well and was rock solid start to finish to cross the line in 9:01:01. Well done Boss! ๐ช
