Derry City parkrun - Event number 617 - 29th August 2026
This week 147 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 33 were first timers and 12 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 18 different clubs took part.
We hosted visitors from: Antrim, Ballynahinch, Ballymena, Basingstoke, Belfast, Hillsborough, Maidenhead, Melbourne, Sheffield and Warrington
Among the visitors were Emma and David from Willowfield Harriers. The Harriers were planning to send visitors to each parkrun in NI, today.
We hope that all the visitors experienced a warm welcome and that you enjoyed the run.
Calum McMonagle celebrated his 20th birthday today, by running 18:49 as our first finisher. Labhaoise Doherty was also celebrating a birthday - her 21st! Her dad surprised her with a cake at the finish that was enjoyed by many of the runners and volunteers!
Paul McKinney ran his 100th parkrun with us today. Meanwhile Noel McMonagle was also running his 100th, he had arranged £100 sponsorship on behalf of Foyle Hospice for the event. Noel was on a tight schedule as his daughter is getting married today and he needed to get home in time to drive her to her wedding. He ran in a tuxedo with a floral buttonhole. (Just between you and me, he was planning to shower and change into his REAL wedding suit when he got home.)
Amid all that excitement two runners from AXA insurance were graduating from the company Couch-to-5k course.
The event was made possible by 15 volunteers:
Elizabeth HARRIGAN • Noelle MELIA • Ian GRAHAM • Conn O'NEILL • George ROW • Florence BEARMAN • Noel MCMONAGLE • Roisin O'DONNELL • Roger CAREY • Conaire HASSON • Declan MCCAFFREY • Orla QUIGLEY • Clara MCDEVITT • Sara LINDSAY • Santhya SENREDDY DEVARAJAN
Today's full results and a complete event history can be found on the Derry City parkrun Results Page: https://www.parkrun.org.uk/derrycity/results/617/
Don’t forget that Derry City parkrun is cancelled next week as the European Cup Triathlon will be happening in the River Foyle and along part of our course.
On Sunday next weekend the Waterside Half Marathon(WHM) is taking place. If you are not running the WHM you might like to be one of THEIR volunteers? If so contact us at the usual email address ([email protected]) and we will pass on your name and email to the organisers of WHM.
[Friday Update] We made a great start to recruiting our team of volunteers for this Saturday (29th August 2026)!
We now just need:
- one more volunteer to help with Finish Tokens
Is there a fast runner - someone who finishes in the first 20% of park runners - who could get their breath back and then help with giving out tokens? (Maybe bring a jacket with you that you can put on after the finish?)
It would also be nice to have people for the following roles:
- Pre-event setup
- Photographer
- Pacers
- Funnel Manager
(checks that approaching runners ARE parkrun-ers)
- Volunteer without-portfolio
(eg minding the keys’ bag, on standby for any crisis)
If you can help with any of those roles (either the one essential volunteer or one of the "nice-to-have" roles) please contact us at:
. . . . . . [email protected]
Since posting this appeal we have found:
- 2x Marshals
- 2x Timekeepers
- Finish Token Issuer
