Client Spotlight ✨

Nicola is one of our amazing SGPT members who joined us at the start of the year as she was wanting to be the best version of her self.
She wants to be strong for as long as she can be for her children and her parents as they get older.

The best reason to build and maintain strength 💪❤️

It all starts with our 6 week trial of small group personal training. We have limited spaces for our October intake.
Please DM ‘TRIAL’ for more info 😊

Barbell Overhead Press Variations🏋️

Pressing heavy overhead is one of the best ways to develop upper body strength and healthy shoulders. Here are some variations, read below for more information about them. ⬇️

▪️The Strict Press

This is the standard one. Pressing the bar from the bottom with the use of the legs.

▪️The Press (2.0)

Similar to the strict press, with a dynamic use if the hips to create a stretch reflex, allowinh heavier weight to be lifted. However, we are still not bending the knees and using leg drive.

▪️Seated Press

Using a slight incline on the bench, the press is performed in a seated position to completey take the legs out of it. Lighter weights are used here, making it a good assistance lift.

▪️Rack Press

Like the strict press, however the bar is placed against the rack and slides up and down it. Great for bar path and a good tool for those who struggle to get the full lock out position.

▪️Top Down Press

This press starts from the lock out position, the pins are set at the top. Controlling the eccentric down and using the stretch reflex at the bottom to press back up. This can be useful for people dealing with shoulder issues who may experience pain when start from the bottom dead start position.

▪️Pin Press

For those who are a little more advanced. The bar is set on the pins at the sticking point of the lift (e.g. at the forehead). The lifter then tries to shrug the bar off the pins and lock it out. Useful for an overload movement and work through sticking points.

Happy Pressing 💪

COMMUNITY

A gym is more than just a place to train. It’s the people you meet, the support you give each other, the laughs, the tough sessions and the small wins along the way.

We’re proud to have built a community where people know each other, push each other and genuinely want to see each other succeed.

That’s what Cumbria Strength & Conditioning is all about. ❤️

💥 Deadlift Variations 💥

♦️Stiff Legged Deadlift

Like the conventional Deadlift but without bending the knees and bringing the shins to the bar. Keep a slight bend in the knee. This position essentially takes the quads out of the movement, giving the hamstrings more work.

♦️Snatch Grip

Using a wider/Snatch grip. This puts the lats and upper back to work. Useful for those who are struggling to maintain upper back tightness.

♦️Deficit Deadlift

Conventional Deadlift standing on a raised surface, such as a plate, to increase range of motion. Useful for those who struggle with the initial drive off the floor.

♦️Paused Deadlift

Conventional Deadlift with a pause in certain positions. Can be good to work on sticking points, dialing in positions and can also be useful as a rehab exercise.

♦️Romanian Deadlift

Starting from the top position and lowering down to about mid shin, only keeping a soft knee bend. Similar to the Stiff Legged Deadlift, putting more emphasis on the hamstrings with a greater focus on the eccentric.

All these variations have their purpose, use them wisely 😁

We have our DEADLIFT VARIATION WORKSHOP this Saturday 10.30am non-members welcome 💪

Meet Kerrie ✨

She joined us 3 months ago after being recommended by a friend.

She had a few niggles and wanted to gain more confidence when lifting weights.

She has now got her drive and determination back and is improving in strength and mobility each week 💪

She’s a delight to coach and we can’t wait to see her progress over the next 3 months…..This is just the beginning of her journey 😊

It all starts with our 6 week trial, please DM ‘TRIAL’ to find out more 😁
