Today is a very important day, and from all of us at DSA, we want to wish every student the very best as you receive your GCSE results.

We know how much hard work, dedication and effort you have put in to reach this moment. There may have been challenges, stressful days and moments when you doubted yourself — but you made it here, and that is something to be proud of.

Whatever your results look like today, remember that they do not define who you are or determine your future. Your GCSE results are just one step in your journey. There are many different paths to success, and each of you has your own unique strengths, talents and ambitions.

From everyone at DSA, we are incredibly proud of you and wish you every success in whatever comes next.

What kids are putting down their phones for hours at a time?

Kids who have discovered a passion for dance.

They walk into the studio, the music begins, and for those hours, the screen no longer matters.

They are moving, creating, listening, communicating, laughing, struggling, and trying again.

They are not sitting alone, comparing their lives to someone else’s carefully edited life on social media.

They are learning how to speak with adults, work with others, accept correction, handle disappointment, celebrate progress, and keep going when something does not come easily.

They have teachers who become mentors.

They have studio owners who believe in them.

They have classmates who become friends, sometimes friends for life.

They have a place to express emotions they may not yet know how to put into words.

Dance gives children something a device never can.

Real connection.

Purpose.

Discipline.

Confidence.

A place to belong.

The children who discover a passion for dance are not simply learning steps. They are discovering who they are and what they are capable of becoming.

In the world our children are growing up in today, the kids who find dance may be some of the luckiest kids of all.

I sometimes wonder what would happen if people could see inside the brain of a dance teacher or studio owner.

It would not be neat.

It would not be quiet.

And it would probably look like 47 tabs open at the same time, with music playing from one of them, and nobody can figure out where it is coming from.

There would be a parent email that still needs an answer, a class plan for Tuesday, a show idea that showed up at 2:00 in the morning, a student who looked a little sad last night, a teacher who needs a little encouragement, a prop that may or may not still be in someone’s garage, and a costume that still needs one more rhinestone, one more safety pin, or one more miracle.

And somehow, in the middle of all of that, we are also thinking about the child who finally smiled in class. The beginner who is starting to believe in themselves. The senior who is getting ready to move on. The parent who trusted us with the most important person in their life.

That is the part “normal people” may not always understand.

Yes, we run businesses.

Yes, we teach classes.

Yes, we plan schedules, performances, programs, and seasons.

But we are also carrying people.

Children.

Families.

Dreams.

And maybe that is why our brains never fully shut off.

Because this work is not just a job we go to.

It is a life we care about.

So if you know a dance teacher or studio owner who forgets where they put their coffee, answers a question before you finish asking it, or suddenly says, “Wait, I just thought of something,” please know this.

They are not scattered.

They are not dramatic.

They are just holding an entire dance studio in their head and heart.

Sometimes a parent signs their child up for dance because they are picturing a once-a-week dance lesson and maybe a tutu at the end of the year. They want their child to move, make friends, gain confidence, or have something that belongs to them.

And then something happens that the parent did not expect.

The studio becomes part of their life too.

They find themselves sitting in the lobby next to another parent who understands the rush from school to class. They start appreciating the other children. They cheer for dancers who are not their own. They begin to understand the teacher’s heart and the vibe of a place that slowly starts to feel familiar.

And somewhere along the journey, it is not just the child who found a place to belong.

The parent did too.

That is one of the coolest things about a dance studio. It is not only a place where children learn steps. It becomes a community. A place where families meet, friendships form, people support each other, and children grow up surrounded by adults who become part of their extended family.

So to the parents who walked through the door thinking this was just going to be a class for your child, thank you for becoming part of the journey.

You matter to the culture of the studio.

Your kindness matters.

Your encouragement matters.

The way you care for every child matters.

Because when a dance studio is at its best, it does more than teach children.

There is a strange silence after a Theatre Show.

For weeks, sometimes months, there has been “that show vibe” throughout the studio. Kids going over their choreography, getting excited for their big moment. Teachers watching their ideas come to life. Parents asking more questions than any other time of the year. Studio owners carrying a thousand details in their heads and pretending, the best they can, that everything is under control.

And then, just like that, it is over.

The curtain closes. The audience heads home. The costumes are packed away. And there we are, lying in bed, thinking about how many people told us, “It was better than a West End show,” while we replay all the moments of pride.

Not only pride in ourselves, but pride for all those kids who ended the season with more confidence, more courage, and stronger skills than they had when they first danced into the studio at the start of the season.

How cool is that?!

That is the part that “normal people” do not always understand. A Theatre performance is not just a show. It is a season of a child’s life. It is a family memory. It is a teacher’s heart on display. It is a studio owner’s dream happening in real time.

And when it is over, there is pride, relief, exhaustion, gratitude, and sometimes a little sadness too.

So to every teacher and studio owner sitting in the quiet after show , please take a minute before you rush to what is next.

You did something so cool.

Somewhere, a child is falling asleep feeling proud.

Somewhere, a parent is replaying the moment their child walked onstage.
