Evie - TREC Trainer

Evie - TREC Trainer I now have the confidence to pick up a map, draw myself a route and ride it. I trained as a BHS TREC judge in 2005, and am now a TREC GB Judge Trainer.

I no longer offer obstacle training and have passed the reins on to 'The Wild Equestrian' - please see Lucy's page for details of her clinics, camps, and guided rides! I’ve been involved with TREC since my first level one pairs competition at Escrick, York in 2004, and it’s become my passion – a great way to build a strong working partnership with any horse, and ride in some fantastic places. I’m not competitive, although I enjoy it when I do well, but I love taking on the various challenges posed by the terrain (and the organisers!) around Britain and Ireland. Thanks to TREC I know that I will be able to find my way, and that I can trust my horse to negotiate any obstacles we encounter. I competed at level two and three from 2005 to 2013 in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. I have also organised and scored for many competitions, and attended Technical Delegate and Tracer (POR route designer) training so I know how the sport works from all sides. I started training for affiliated Riding Clubs in 2009 and discovered that I really enjoy introducing people to the sport and helping others to improve in skill and confidence so that they can progress through the levels. My aim is to improve the partnership, trust and confidence that horse and handler have throughout a session. I have had the pleasure of training three very different horses for TREC myself – the wonderful Domino, slightly neurotic Sooti, and opinionated Hera. Working with these horses as well as many wonderful partnerships in the training sessions has given me a variety of tools and approaches for different horses. If you can't make it to in-person training, come to a webinar or watch the recordings! https://form.jotform.com/221026781544352

I had a fab afternoon in the sun with these four lovelies 🩷 with a bit of training out in the wild on one of their regular hacks.

Becca and Juliet completed the winter TREC Tuesday challenge (doing some obstacle training at home for 11 weeks on the trot) and Becca was very happy to show off her rosette while taste-testing her treats!

We'd love to see a few more people in the special intro class especially - you can do the whole thing in hand and only need very basic map reading skills for this class - help is available beforehand along with lots of assistance on the event.

It’s a great opportunity to have a go at summer TREC in a really low pressure, welcoming environment 🩷

Some kind treccies have offered to bring spare corralling equipment to save newbies having to buy it - if this is you just get in touch and we’ll match you up with a corralling friend 😁
