Downes Crediton Golf Club

Downes Crediton Golf Club Brilliant 18 hole parkland course situated on the outskirts of Exeter! It can be challenging at times with three ponds and the River Yeo running through it.

A tree lined well manicured parkland course that is tight on the front nine and more undulating and open on the back nine. There are great views across the Devon countryside and woodlands where ravens and buzzards nest. The hundreds of trees planted in the early years are now approaching maturity and provide colour and interest all year round.

Quick post to complement the reel - video montage from Saturday's Pro’s Day.

A fantastic, fun-filled day, with 55 pairs taking part. Joe also provided prizes for nearest the pin on each par 3, the ever-popular Nearest the Gin on the 6th, and longest drives to Kate Cornish, Scott Harris, Steve Govier, Ricky Buttle, Matt Russell, Wayne Moore, Fran Shrubsole, and Mark Ainscough.

With the fairways finally showing a little more green, there was some excellent scoring throughout the field. Eddie Yeandle and Andy Dafters took top honours with a superb 46 points, narrowly beating Luke Burchell and Kevin Quick on countback.

Young George Saunders took the Junior Trophy for the day.

Well played to everyone who took part, and thank you to Ollie and Joe for helping make another brilliant Pro’s Day.

Some fine swings—and perhaps a few hopeful prayers—feature in this video montage from Saturday’s Beat the Pro Challenge during our annual Pro’s Day!

The challenge was simple: could players get closer to the pin on the 15th than our very own Ollie? Turn the sound up and enjoy the highlights. 🔊⛳

Saturday’s Ray Shire Trophy was played in some rather unusual conditions for this summer — rain!

Despite the wet weather, scoring was exceptional. Scott Harris, Paul D’Inverno and Peter Duncan took top spot with an incredible nett 52, while Jamie Parsons, Dean Pidgeon and Nigel Harris finished close behind in second place with a nett 55.

It may not have been everyone’s preferred golfing weather, but after such a dry spell, it was hard to complain too much — as many have been saying, “we needed it!”

Well played to all who took part. ⛳️🌧️🏆

A glorious day of golf at Downes Crediton Golf Club for our annual Ladies Open, held on Tuesday 18th August.

Ten teams took part in a three-ball Texas Scramble, with each player required to contribute four tee shots. We were delighted to welcome visitors from both local clubs and further afield, all of whom rose to the challenge of the course.

Despite the prolonged dry spell, the course was presented superbly, with receptive but quick greens providing a real test throughout the day.

Congratulations to our winners, Debbie Snelgrove, Vici Topping and Caroline Turney of Sidmouth Golf Club, who returned an excellent score of 58.

Second place went to Linda Johnson, Lesley Moore and Lesley Wills—pictured—who represented three different clubs from the Bristol area and scored 59. Third place was claimed by Ali Menheneott of Tiverton, alongside Sue Jackson and Shirley Stunell of Crediton, with 61.

Well done to all who took part, and thank you for making it such an enjoyable and successful day. 🏌️‍♀️⛳🏆

A terrific turnout for the annual Greenkeepers’ Revenge on Saturday, held at the end of Maintenance Week as a fun way for members to show their appreciation for all the hard work put in by our greenkeeping team.

Representing Team Greenkeepers were Ken Bones, his son Jay, Guy Hoskins and recently retired DCGC Chairman Nick Walker, who clearly hasn’t lost his competitive edge. Director of Greens Nick West was unfortunately a late withdrawal—rumour has it he was exhausted after helping out earlier in the week!

Members faced a course full of devilish challenges, including obstacles, outrageous pin positions, left-handed shots and even drives taken while sitting down. The team that best navigated the mayhem was Neil Baker, Samuel Drewe, David Finnimore and Paul Walaron—although, in this event, survival is arguably as important as winning!

A fabulous day was had by all and a fitting thank-you to the greenkeeping staff, who have worked tirelessly through both floods and drought to keep the course in such excellent condition this season. 🏌️‍♂️⛳👏

A fantastic turnout for the DCGC 4BBB Seniors Open on Monday, with more than 100 players taking part.

The scoring was impressive throughout the field, with over half of the competing pairs returning 37 points or more. However, the day belonged to Arthur Moughton and Colin Bishop, who produced an excellent 49 points to take top spot. Congratulations to both!

It was great to see the event so well supported, and we would like to thank every player who took part and helped make it such an enjoyable day.
