In the England and Wales Cricket Board Vitality UK National T20 Women’s Club Cup Final at Wormsley Estate, despite a swashbuckling knock by Ellie Phillips, Dorridge Cricket Club’s total of 135 proved too few against St Cross Symondians CC, the Wintonians clinching a 6-wicket victory.

On a verdant pitch, resembling an oasis in a rugby desert, Leicester Tigers’ Oval Training Ground at Oadby Wyggs hosted a Defender PREM Rugby Next Gen U18 round 2 clash, in which Newcastle Red Bulls edged a thriller 38-40.
The match was followed by an equally tight U17’s contest between the 2 clubs, in which the Geordies took the spoils, 19-21.

In the first The Matt Gallagher Foundation All Star Charity Cricket Match since Matt’s passing, his eponymous XI, captained by Darren Maddy, clinched victory against Knowle & Dorridge Cricket Club XI, taking a 2-1 lead in the series’ 3rd year.
A bumper crowd enjoyed l***y blows, well-stocked bars, upbeat tunes from the DJ, an impressive range of gastronomic options, ball-by-ball commentary by legendary TV sport presenter Gary Newbon and live music from Nicola Coall - whilst raising vital funds to improve the lives of people with Motor Neurone Disease.

On Day 2 of the England Rugby festival at Malvern College, it was the turn of the U17’s from academies in England, Wales and Ireland to represent their clubs.
Each team played 3 matches of 30 minutes.

The RFU festival at Malvern College is always a superb day of academy rugby, on pitches perfectly prepared in the face of a long, hot summer.
Under the Defender PREM Rugby NextGen banner, yesterday’s matches showcased the best young talent bubbling under the PREM’s senior squads.
In the 3 fixtures I covered, there were victories for Gloucester Rugby, Bristol Bears Rugby and Saracens over The Sale Sharks, Yorkshire Rugby Academy and Leicester Tigers respectively.

A glorious day, a lovely setting and some top-notch cricket yesterday, as Rugby School hosted a Metrobank One Day Cup clash between Warwickshire County Cricket Club and Gloucestershire Cricket.
A captain’s knock by of 132 (123 balls) by Rob Yates helped the Bears chase down the visitors’ 271, clinching a 6-wicket victory.
