Centre Signings

The boys in the middle of the park are back and raring to go

Last year's Lions player of the season Louis Pointon is back for his 17th season in the Street shirt after joining at 7 years old, a fine display of durability considering his smash and grab physicality and disregard for anyone's personal safety in the collisions. A hard running-big tackling outside centre he was regularly deployed in the back row if there was an injury and we had already used our 3 subs. His improving performances year on year has shown the levels of player development that can happen with good coaching and opportunities, now at 24 we are expecting the very best from him.

Ryan O'Neill is another physically dominant player with the mentality of a tongan in the tackle. His attacking hard lines off set piece are a real handful to defend and his experience and communication in defence is a real asset in our young squad. Now in his 30's he's never come to Pre-season looking as fit and lean as he does now and we can expect him coming full noise into the season expecting to make an impact on Level 5 rugby.

Rob Knox comes in this season as player coach as his wealth of experience and game understanding was vital in last year's campaign. As a coach he is such an asset to the team but as a player he still has all the attributes which made him one of Coventry's highest ever try scorers and a top level champ player. He got better as the games got harder last season and we are hoping he can deliver the same this season

Tristan Clarke is another Street M&J who has had a real impact on the Lions squad in recent years. His metronomic boot has meant that any pens given to us in the opposition half are a realistic opportunity to come away with points. Neil Jenkins had a 10 year international career with the understanding that he would never miss a shot at goal and Tristan offers the same for us. A tidy distributor and a great reader of the game he has a burst of speed which has seen him home for a couple of length of the pitch tries too. Still only having 2 years of adult rugby under his belt he is one to keep an eye on, which you can do tc_rugbykicking

Fly Halves have been few and far between in recent seasons at Street but next season with these re-signings we should be in safe hands

Jordan Gott has bags of experience at fly half having represented Cornish Pirates, Plymouth Albion and the Navy in some huge games. His ability shone through last season as he guided the club through the season and our playoff wins. An absolutely transformational signing for the club last season, he has since left the Navy and settled in the area so could be a fixture in our squad for the foreseeable.

Ethan Hancock is another Street M&J who has broken in to the 1st XV in recent years but unfortunately had his campaign ended in the 3rd game of last season away at Northampton Old Scouts with a nasty leg break. After that start-stop season we are hoping we can see more of him fulfilling his great potential this season and with Jordan Gott ahead of him then he has plenty of knowledge to pull from.

Cloud 9 for returning scrum halves

Every Summer a new player turns up to Pre-season training with no announcement, they've just moved to the area and want to play rugby and enjoy a few beers after the game.... Last Summer that guy was Harvey Giles and he turned out to be a very good addition to our squad. He has all the fundamentals and technical ability, a strong box kick and quick pass, he's not going to snipe from inside his own 22 and go the length, but he still managed to sneak over for a few. With a lot of competition in the position the starting 9 swapped a few times but by the end of the year Harvey had established himself as the main man. We're glad he's back for his 2nd season and if we had a player of Harvey's calibre turning up unannounced every season then we'd be a very lucky club indeed.

Nick Thatcher commits to another season playing at Broadstreet. With Gareth Renowden still going for it at Kenilworth there must be a standoff going to see who blinks first and calls it a day. Nevertheless he was still instrumental in our promotion campaign and added so much value at 1st and 2nd XV level throughout the season. Now also a great coach he will be concentrating on getting the Lions promoted and get back to back success for the boys, whether that is on the pitch or from the sidelines we can't say, but I know where my money would be on that😉

Jack Barsby completes the scrum half depth chart and has the ability to be the best one on it. A Broadstreet M&J he is a clubman through and through who was rewarded with his first team debut in his first year out of colts rugby. Now having completed 2 years of adult rugby he is primed to make real headway in level 5 rugby and take the bull by the horns and become Street's go to guy. Competition is tough but he has the ability to make it happen if he wants to.

Street Colts taking shape

The colts have been back training Tuesdays and Thursdays since June and are looking like they'll be backing up last season's successes

Stephen Stav Hill

We say goodbye to Anthony "Wilky" Wiltshire, a stalwart of the club and fantastic servant to the game. We would like to wish Rose, Rebecca and his family our deepest condolences and invite the Broadstreet community and those who knew him to his funeral at the club this Thursday.

Wilky's funeral arrangements are as follows - 1pm on Thursday 16th July at Stoke St Michael's Church followed by the committal at Canley Crematorium at 2.15pm.
The reception will be held at Broadstreet Rugby Club afterwards for those who would like to celebrate the life of a great friend to the club, husband, father and grandfather.

We're Back!

Pre-Season got off to a flying start last night with a joint (mens and women's) Hyrox session and then breaking out into skills and rugby.

Some new faces mixed in with a lot of familiar ones, a great way to set our stall out for the new campaign. Every Tuesday and Thursday going forward now the men's team will be training and the women have a run out on Mondays.

Engine Room Revs Up

Lewis Kavanagh returns for another season in Green, Red & White. A certified "Big Unit" the Broadstreet M&J will be a massive asset as an experienced operator in the scrum and line-out. His hard yards near the rucks on slow ball always gets the team over the game line and he is a dominant tackling defender. Rumour has it that he has even practised bending his legs in the off season so that he isn't taking peoples head off at the neck in 90% of those dominant hits.

Jake Dallyn made a massive impact during the back end of the season and put in some big performances during our play off run to promotion. An athletic 2nd row with a huge ceiling for his potential, he was recognized by Midlands 20s when he was included to represent them. His enthusiasm on the pitch is unparalleled and we look forward to seeing what he can do this season. "Biiiiiig Scruuuuum!"

Jake Clayton and Jos Nightingale are also both out of our M&J system and had a real impact on the success of our Lions last season. Both still under 20 this has seen them both rewarded with 1st XV call ups and if things keep progressing we could soon be looking at the solution to any 1st XV 2nd Row selection dilemmas for the next decade. A season of dedicated hard work and progression is ahead for both players and we will soon be seeing them in the 1st XV squad again

All 3 Ho**ers return for new campaign

Last year's hooking cohort are returning to continue the lively competition that brought success last season.

Rory Fisher has been a vital cog in the last couple of seasons as his versatility has been utilized by the coaches with him covering ho**er & flanker (and on one occasion tight head). He held the ho**er position during the middle part of the season and his chop tackle and jackal skills were essential against the heavy packs who couldn't deal with his low centre of gravity play. An experienced operator who, despite being a qualified referee, plays very close the edge of the laws of the game. He is a great Clubman and is great value off the pitch as well.

Kieran Moore started and finished the season as the starting Ho**er and his competition against Fisher was a testament to his character and his ability to work on his own game. His development through the season was exceptional and it was his accuracy in the lineouts which finally defined his season. Still relatively young we hope he continues to develop his game and become a mainstay of the club.

Ryan Evans hitched his colours to the runaway train that was the Lions season last year and his consistency made him one of the 1st names on the team sheet. Competition is hotting up in the club's front row this season but we know that Ryan is a safe pair of hands and will be the one to beat if anyone is knocking on the selection door.
