🏏💚 2ND XI TEAM NEWS 💛🏏

A huge game for the 2nd XI this weekend as they travel to face Maldon CC II with the league title firmly in their sights! 👀🏆

The Green are currently just TWO points off top spot, so there’s everything to play for as we head into the business end of the season. 💪

Nitja Patel captains the side, with the 2s looking for another big performance to keep the pressure on at the top of the table! 🔥

On yet another glorious sunny day and on a sun bleached parched outfield after weeks of no rain, Eight Ash Green lost the toss and Witham decided to bat first.

Both Witham opening batsman got off the mark with a 4, but then with the score on 8 Witham lost 5 wickets and then the 6th wicket fell with the score on 11. Dev Agrawal 3 wickets for 7 and James Woodcock 3 wickets for 8, during which both bowlers had a chance of a hat trick. An 8th wicket stand of 63 helped to push the score up and Witham were bowled out for 99 from 26.2 overs.

Connor Amos & James Woodcock batted very sensibly putting on 75 runs for the 1st wicket. Eight Ash Green then lost 3 wickets for 2 runs. Praveen Amarasinghe & Henry Warner then put on 26 runs for the 4th wicket with Praveen hitting the winning 4.

Another good all round performance from James Woodcock with 3 wickets for 8 runs and 28 runs.

🏏💚 1ST XI — LAST TWO RESULTS 💛🏏

A couple of tough results for the 1st XI over the past two weeks, including an absolute thriller at the Green against Harwich.

📅 25th July — Harwich & Dovercourt CC 1st XI (H)

EAG posted 222/6 from 45 overs, led by a superb 89 from Ross Warne, with valuable contributions from J Purser (44) and A Peiris (40).

The bowlers pushed Harwich all the way, with A Peiris taking 3-28, O Licence 3-31 and C McDonald 2-42, but the visitors just got over the line at 224/8.

❌ EAG lost by 2 wickets

📅 1st August — Halstead CC 2nd XI (A)

Halstead set 231/7 from their 45 overs, with Ross Warne taking 3-35.

Unfortunately the chase never quite got going as needed. Ross completed a strong all-round performance with 49, while J Purser finished unbeaten on 44*, but EAG were dismissed for 157.

❌ EAG lost by 74 runs

Not the results we wanted, but plenty still to play for as we head into the closing stages of the season. Time to bounce back! 💪💚💛

🏏💚 BACK-TO-BACK WINS FOR THE 2ND XI! 💛🏏

Another excellent couple of weeks for the EAG 2nd XI, with wins over two strong sides keeping the momentum going as we head towards the business end of the season! 🔥

🗓️ 25th July — Braintree CC 3rd XI

Batting first, the Green piled up an imposing 267/3 from 40 overs. After a positive start, Jack Axon and Matt Norris put together a huge 159-run partnership to take control of the game.

👏 Jack fell agonisingly short of three figures with a superb 99 from 97 balls, while Matt smashed a best-ever score for the Green of 82 from just 68 balls, including 15 boundaries!

Braintree started their chase strongly, but some smart changes in the field and excellent bowling turned the game back our way. Nitya Patel took 3-45, Bevin Guthrie 2-48, and a brilliant caught-and-bowled from Thomas Riley helped seal a 41-run victory. 💪

🗓️ 1st August — Colchester & East Essex CC 3rd XI

Another successful chase a week later! Colchester posted 190 all out, with Alex Hammond producing an excellent 4-25 from eight overs.

The chase wasn’t straightforward, with wickets falling regularly, but once again Jack Axon led from the front. His unbeaten 86* guided EAG to 192/6 in 35.3 overs and a four-wicket victory! 🏏

Jack’s season with the 2nd XI has been remarkable — eight innings, one century and six fifties, with scores including 99, 96, 87 and 86*. His only innings without reaching a landmark? 47! 🤯🔥

✅ Two wins
✅ Another maximum 20 points against Colchester
✅ Plenty of momentum heading into the final games

🏏💚 TWO WINS. TOP OF THE LEAGUE! 💛🏏

A brilliant couple of weeks for the EAG Women’s Sunday XI, with back-to-back wins sending the team to the TOP OF THE LEAGUE! 🔝🔥

🗓️ 26th July vs East Bergholt
East Bergholt – 119/4 (20)
EAG – 123/0 (12.1)
✅ EAG won by 8 wickets!

A dominant chase, with M Patel 30* and R Watson 28* helping EAG race to the target without losing a wicket! 👏

🗓️ 2nd August vs Felixstowe & Corinthians 2nd XI
EAG – 156/2 (20)
Felixstowe & Corinthians – 109/7 (20)
✅ EAG won by 47 runs!

Another superb all-round performance, with H Finbow-Jeffery 31*, M Patel 30* and K Cutter 30* leading the way with the bat before the bowlers finished the job. 💪

⭐ Two games. Two wins. Top of the league. ⭐

What a season the Women’s XI are having — keep it going! 💚💛

Eight Ash Green won the toss and decided to bowl first. Henry Warner said he would like to bowl left arm seam, instead of his usual spin bowling, so opened the bowling with James Woodcock.

Both Coggeshall openers liked to flash hard outside the offside which induced a couple of high edges for four, so I decided to try a fly slip, which nearly worked when another flash outside off stump induced an edge which flew just over Tim Chambers.
With Coggeshall at 60-0 in the 11th over we needed a wicket which came when Caiden Amos bowled a long hop which was pulled forcibly, but Duncan Wyatt jumped to his left to take the catch, which pleased him immensely.
Finley Barnard was on a hat-trick, but with everyone in close the batsman played the ball down.
Coggeshall scored the highest Sunday T30 team score against us on a very fast outfield.

Eight Ash Green bowled too many wides during the innings which gives the opposition 1 run, plus another ball to score runs off. This ultimately was a big factor in why we lost with Coggeshall not bowling their first wide until the 25th over.

Coggeshall scored 193 for 7 from 30 overs.

Eight Ash Green batted steadily against straighter bowler than ours. Ethan Wyatt got off the mark, with one of his trademark sixes over long off, from the 4th ball he faced before being caught for 24 runs and Henry Warner batted patiently for 52 retired not out,

Eight Ash Green finished on 153 for 8 from 30 overs to lose by 40 runs.

🏏 1st XI WIN BY 2 WICKETS! 💚💛

A brilliant chase from the 1st XI saw us edge past Hadleigh CC 2nd XI in a thrilling finish at the Green!

💥 Deepak led the way with an outstanding 80, while Ross added a crucial 35 to keep the innings on track.

Earlier in the day, Amila impressed with 2-21 from 9 overs, backed up by wickets from Ollie, Jens and James, helping restrict Hadleigh to 221/5.

👏 A fantastic team effort to secure another important league victory!

EAG 2nd XI travelled to West Mersea to take on a side with only one defeat all season.

The pitch looked bowler friendly and we were surprised when the hosts won the toss and decided to bat. Did they know something we didn’t? Nope. EAG opening bowlers Dev Agrawal and Nico Dormant took the game by the scruff of the neck and had the hosts reduced to 37-5 after 18 overs. Dev finished with 2-20 off 10 overs and Nico 3 for 18 off 9 overs. We tried to press our advantage but Mersea dug in bravely and although they didn’t cut loose at any stage, EAG only made two more breakthroughs in the second half of their innings, leaving West Mersea on 106-7 off their 40 overs.

We needed to bat sensibly in our reply on this super slow and low bouncing wicket to secure the win. The two opening bowlers for Mersea were probably the best opening pair we have faced all season and with EAG on 30-4 it looked like the game was very much in the balance. All we needed was one good partnership, an ‘army of two’ if you like, to steady the ship and push us to victory. That pair was Jack Axon with 53 not out (off 63 balls) and Troy Collins with 44 not out (8 fours). Their unbeaten partnership of 78 took the Green to a victory and an important win over one of our closest rivals.

Troy Collins was player of the match for his 44 not out and 1-20 off ten overs.
