๐ Huge congratulations to Caitlyn on recently qualifying as a BSAC Ocean Diver ๐คฟ๐
Since joining Clydebank Sub Aqua Club in April 2025, Caitlyn has thrown herself into her training and is now officially ready for plenty more underwater adventures ๐ฆ๐๐ฆ
As one of the younger members of the club, it's been great to see her progress and grow in confidence throughout the course ๐๐
The only casualty of this success story is likely to be Stuart's wallet, which is now facing the inevitable reality of funding a rapidly growing collection of dive gear ๐ธ๐
Well done, Caitlyn โ we can't wait to see where your diving takes you next! ๐คฟโจ

Ocean Divers Take on Oban ๐๐คฟ๐
One pizza oven, six divers, one compressor, twelve-ish cylinders, and one boat powered by approximately 45 raging horses made the two-hour journey north to Oban for the long weekend ๐ค๐จ๐ด
The SS Breda was our primary target, followed by a few scenic dives at some of the areaโs classic sites ๐ณ๏ธโ
For some of our home-grown Ocean Divers, this was their first proper away-from-home dive trip โ the full experience of loading boats, planning dives, filling cylinders, eating constantly, and somehow still finding the energy to dive again the next morning ๐
๐คฟ
We were blessed with decent weather โ๏ธ and cursed with a tactical assault from the local midges ๐ฆ๐ค
But itโs almost summer in Scotlandโฆ what else do you expect?
The diving was exactly what youโd hope for from Oban โ wrecks, scenery, cold water, and plenty of life ๐๐ฆ๐
But letโs be honestโฆ the second most important thing on any dive trip is the food ๐๐ฅ
Which is exactly why the pizza oven earned prime position on the kit list ๐

The midweek squad didnโt even have time to let their kit dry properly after the weekend before they were right back out diving at Anchor Point today โ๐คฟ
We donโt know what Daveโs secret is, but somehow octopuses seem to appear everywhere he goes ๐๐
The divers also spotted wrasse cruising about and some conger eels hiding away in the cracks and gullies ๐๐๐
A bit of training, a bit of fun diving, and another cracking evening underwater ๐โจ
Not a bad dayโs work really ๐๐คฟ

A healthily-sized group of CSAC divers (plus a few assorted friends) sacrificed a lie-in and rolled south at the crack of dawn to Seahouses Harbour for a day diving the Farne Islands ๐
๐๐คฟ
Skippered by the excellent Serenity Boat Tours, we enjoyed the sunshine, the scenery, and for someโฆ the full authentic North Sea seasickness experience ๐คข๐๐
The huge crowds of seals on the rocks didnโt quite translate into underwater chaos, but a few lucky divers still got some very cool seal encounters ๐ฆญ๐
The real standout had to be the visibility though โ crystal clear water with no torches needed all the way down to 20m ๐โจ
The rocky reefs and kelp forests were a very nice change from our usual west coast mud and sea lochs ๐ฟ๐ชจ
Loads of life about too, including lobsters, butterfish, scorpionfish, sea urchins, anemones, and a couple of wrasse that seemed very interested in staring us down ๐ฆ๐๐
For some of the group, it was also their first time diving from a proper hard boat โ complete with hot drinks and an actual diver lift โ๐ค
Safe to say, going back to launching a RIB the Scottish way might feel a little less glamorous now ๐
03/05/2026
After yesterdayโs dive, we might have mentioned there was a pretty cool boat sitting up the lochโฆ so naturally a few people came back to check it out ๐ณ๏ธโ๏ธ๐๐
Not that we needed much of an excuse โ we had some more twinset and DSMB training lined up anyway ๐ช๐คฟ๐
Another lovely day (possibly the tail end of the Scottish summer ๐) for getting out diving in Loch Long, at Scotlandโs premier dive site โ A Frames ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟโฉ๏ธ๐
Good dives, good vibes, good training, and excellent company ๐คฟโจ

Where have we seen that yellow drysuit beforeโฆ ๐๐
Oh yeah โ thatโll be our DO James ๐
One week heโs teaching twinset courses, the next heโs down on the seabed helping recover lost fishing gear ๐คฉโ๏ธ
Some seriously awesome work being done by Ghost Fishing UK , and even more impressive when you see it happening right there in the water ๐คฟ๐

CSAC Twinset Course ๐ฑ + Dive Leader Training ๐ช
David got a taste of the gateway drug to what some might call technical diving ๐ฅธ๐คฟ
The Twinset course is no joke โ challenging, but packed full of useful skills: problem solving, buoyancy control, frog kicks, and all the good stuff that carries over into both recreational and slightly more techy diving ๐ชโ๏ธ
Meanwhile, Gordon was ticking off more of his Dive Leader training โ with a solid 8m viz and some properly refreshing Scottish temperatures ๐ฅถ๐
Highlight of the day? A seal turning up mid-skill while Gordy was doing mask clearsโฆ because nothing says calm, controlled training like being judged by a seal ๐๐ฆญ

One of the most important and underappreciated roles in the club has to be the Equipment Officer ๐๐ง
Keeping all the gear that keeps the club diving clean, serviced, and ready to go is no small task โ๏ธ๐ข๏ธ๐
This was the very official handover ceremony as outgoing Equipment Officer David passed over the keys โ and a ceremonial fin โ to incoming Equipment Officer Lee ๐๐ค๐ฆ
Huge thanks to David for all the hard work behind the scenes โ the dives simply donโt happen without it ๐๐คฟ
Best of luck to Leeโฆ may your O-rings stay intact, your compressor behave, and the club boat engine never fail you (or us) ๐๐พ๐ง๐ฅ

The keen-eyed might spot a certain wee tall CSAC diver sneaking into a few of these shots ๐๏ธ๐
Itโs always great to see the work that Ghost Fishing UK are doing โ especially in and around our local waters and the dive sites we visit all the time ๐คฟ๐
Makes you appreciate even more whatโs beneath the surfaceโฆ and the effort going in to protect it ๐
