Swimpigs SWIMPIGS - FLY HAPPY THROUGH WATER. Personal swim coaching under the sky Specialising in one-to-one swim coaching under the sky, it's all about you. Estd.

SWIMPIGS is inspired by the infamous pigs of the Bahamas who swim happy and free and achieve the unexpected. Individual sessions are tailored to your swim goal and instructed in-water, opening a window into your swimming above and below the surface and enabling continuous communication and coaching. GIVE WINGS TO YOUR SWIMS - My aim is to get more people loving swimming under the sky and feeling the benefit. I set out to help individuals of all ages achieve their personal swimming goal and more, from open water confidence to refining technique and skills.

* Focused sessions centred on your journey through water, from mud lovers who wannabe water hogs to ‘go-faster’ triathletes

* Moving you forward on tempo with your ambition and beyond the expected

* 'Swimming without limits' h2osophy, to get you gliding high and feeling ‘swimgood’

See it - Feel it - Do it - Love it

PASSION & EXPERIENCE - I just love swimming, year-round, especially in wild places and the cold, clear waters of west Ireland. I have immersed myself in swims that have become amazing journeys including Scilly Swim Challenge 15k, Wild Wye Swim 10.5k, Dart 10k, Bantham Swoosh 6k, and The Great Fjord Swim 4k. On 14th July 2018, I was one of the first four women ever to swim the 10k across Brandon Bay (Co. Kerry), as part of a self-organised event supporting RNLI. I have helped young swimmers to enjoy water safely for more than 15 years, and was a volunteer coach at Clevedon Amateur Swimming Club (2013-2021). SWIMPIGS Fly happy through water. June 2017 :@)

Harvest Moon :@)
September’s full moon brings bigger spring tides from Sunday through to Tuesday. The Harvest Moon shifts to October every 4 to 5 years, because it is defined as the full moon closest to the Autumn Equinox.

Swim watch :@)
A waterproof watch is an essential piece of kit as the sea and air temperature drop. It enables you to monitor how long you're in the water. Use it to know and adapt your 'comfortable'. Don’t be tempted to stay in the water for as long as others. Cold-water tolerance is individual and can change day-to-day depending on your general wellbeing.

Autumn Equinox :@)
Autumn equinox marks equal balance between day and night… when the Sun is exactly above the Equator, illuminating the Northern and Southern hemispheres equally. Only on the Sutumn and Spring Equinoxes do the sun and moon rise and set due East and due West.

Seasonal turning point :@)
September marks the cooling of water... shorter days and shorter swims. As sea, lake and river temperatures drop, it's more important than ever to stay in tune with your body - and decrease the amount of time you spend in the water.

Aurora Borealis :@)
The spring and autumn equinoxes are the best times of the year to see the Northern Lights. During the equinox there is a lot of geomagnetic electrical disturbance (up to twice as many geomagnetic storms). At the autumn equinox, the earth's axial tilt aligns us at the peak angle relative to the sun to ‘accept’ sun particles, and therefore to see the Northern Lights.

Be aware :@)
Portuguese Man O’War can be seen in September or October, pushed along by the wind, carrying them from warmer waters. Also known as Bluebottles, they can deliver a very painful sting when beached and dead.

Equinoctial spring tides :@)
These occur around the Equinoxes at both the full and new moon phases of the lunar cycle. They bring super tides, thanks to maximum gravitational pull - when the Moon and Sun are aligned with the Equator. Today there is a super low tide, meaning a greater tidal range and stronger currents.

Edible sea urchin :@)

Washed up at the high tide line… 15cm in diameter, it is the largest sea urchin in our seas. When it dies, it drops its spines leaving only the hard, internal skeletal shell, called a test.

Non-wetsuit swimmers :@)
Spotted 25 of these small but painful Mauve Stingers on Scraggane Beach today. They do not appear to be swarming like they were over a week ago, but it only takes one close encounter to deliver an intensely venomous smack 😫
