How do I know when I’m practicing yoga ?
I think about this a lot. I think about it when i scroll through Instagram and see images of people ‘doing yoga’ often with a fancy new gym set or upside down 1 armed balance. Or it’s glorified as a 45 minute work that must be squeezed in to ones day to maintain sanity.
I think about it the most when my friends and family tell me they can’t ‘do yoga’ or they’re not very good as they can touch their toes or they think their too out of shape.
My hope for us all is that we come to the realisation that yoga is action.
It is the way we interact with the world, the way we open our hearts to others, the way we make change or speak up with courage when there is unjust for those marginalised. Yoga is union- a coming together of not only yourself but community’s coming together and practicing loving kindness even amongst disagreement and hardship. That is yoga in action, maybe touching your toes is a lovely benefit but it isn’t the whole practice.
Next time your in your class or self practice, see what you can take off the mat and in to your life- an open heart or maybe less resistance, then your practicing yoga.

If your feeling stuck, or a little bit lost in your ways, have a read and remember you can always change your mind, do something different. Life’s for growing and changing. We’re never meant to remain the same.
