Hello,

As we move out of the summer months, I wanted to take the opportunity to update communities across North East Derbyshire on the work your Safer Neighbourhood Teams have been carrying out across the area.
The teams have remained focused on tackling ongoing crime and anti-social behaviour (ASB) trends through a problem-solving approach, working closely with our partners to identify issues and deliver long-term solutions.

This proactive approach has contributed to an overall 26% reduction in ASB over the past 12 months. Our officers continually review local data to identify repeat issues, enabling targeted action plans to be developed and implemented. As you may have seen from recent communications, this has resulted in a number of prolific shoplifting offenders being successfully dealt with and made subject to Criminal Behaviour Orders, helping to prevent further offending and protect local businesses.

The team has also been making use of the updated Section 59 Police Reform Act powers, strengthened under the Crime and Policing Act 2026. These changes mean that, where justified, vehicles can now be seized without the need for a prior warning. We regularly hear from residents that nuisance off-road motorcycles and e-bikes are a significant concern, and we will continue to utilise these powers, alongside other available tactics, to address these issues and improve community safety.

On 26 October 2026, Respect Orders will be introduced under the Crime and Policing Act 2026. I have already briefed local teams on these new powers to ensure we are ready to make effective use of them from day one.

Key Details of Respect Orders
โ€ข Who they apply to: Adults aged 18 and over who engage in, or threaten to engage in, anti-social behaviour that causes harassment, alarm, or distress.
โ€ข Who can apply for them: Local authorities, housing providers, and chief officers of police.
โ€ข What they can do: Restrict repeat offenders from entering specific areas, such as town centres, prohibit certain behaviours including public drinking, and require participation in rehabilitation programmes such as drug or alcohol treatment or anger management courses.
โ€ข Consequences of breach: Breaching a Respect Order is a criminal offence and can result in penalties including imprisonment, unlimited fines, curfews, or unpaid work.

We remain committed to ensuring our policing priorities reflect the issues that matter most to local communities. If you would like to help shape our future priorities, review the work being undertaken, or simply provide feedback about the area where you live or work, I would encourage you to attend one of our local community engagement events or complete the Community Voice Survey.

Your feedback is invaluable and plays a vital role in helping us understand local concerns and set our neighbourhood policing priorities.

As we move into autumn, I will continue to ensure that your local officers remain as visible and accessible as possible. Over the last six months, the North East Safer Neighbourhood Teams have completed 716 community engagements, the highest number in the county, and I continue to encourage officers to engage with residents whenever possible.

I have also been spending time in our communities personally, carrying out door-to-door visits to introduce myself and better understand the concerns and priorities of local residents. If you would like me to visit your area, please leave a comment below with your location. These requests will be reviewed, and I hope to meet and speak with many more of you over the coming months.

Thank you for your continued support.

Today, PCSOs Morton and Murray were out and about in the Pilsley area alongside local Beat Officer PC Burgin and Local Policing Inspector Inspector Brown.

As part of our ongoing work to understand what matters most to our local communities, we carried out door-to-door surveys to help us set our quarterly policing priorities for the area. ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ

It was a great opportunity to speak directly with residents, hear about the issues that matter to you and find out where you would like to see our focus over the coming months.

A big thank you to everyone who took the time to speak with us and share your concerns, information and suggestions. ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

Your feedback helps us make sure our policing priorities reflect the needs of the communities we serve.

If we didnโ€™t manage to catch you today, donโ€™t worry โ€” there will be other opportunities to have your say! ๐Ÿ‘‹

As the schools have now restarted, we are reminding parents on the safety and legality of their parking when dropping off and picking up their children.

The police, civil enforcement and local schools will be monitoring these issues and will be looking to enforce where needed.

๐Ÿš” YOUR LOCAL SNT โ€“ OUT AND ABOUT IN OUR COMMUNITIES! ๐Ÿš”

Itโ€™s been a busy few weeks for the team, and weโ€™ve loved getting out and about, meeting local residents and supporting events across our communities! ๐Ÿ’™

Hereโ€™s a little look at what weโ€™ve been up to:

โ˜• Mickley Warm Spaces โ€“ We popped along to the Warm Spaces event for a catch-up, a cuppa and a chance to speak with members of the community.

๐Ÿš“ Stonebroom HAF Emergency Services Day โ€“ Another brilliant day with the youngsters, taking along a police van and some of our equipment for them to explore.

๐ŸŽก Ashover Show โ€“ We were out enjoying the Ashover Show, meeting residents and having plenty of conversations with our local community.

๐Ÿค Community Catch-Up โ€“ North Wingfield Resource Centre โ€“ A great opportunity to listen to local residents, hear about their concerns and discuss what matters to the community.

๐Ÿšจ SNT Day of Action โ€“ We worked alongside our neighbouring beats to provide a highly visible presence across our local areas, tackling issues including off-road bikes and anti-social behaviour.

๐Ÿ’™ Helping our colleagues in Grassmoor โ€“ We also gave Grassmoor SNT a helping hand, covering an event at Grassmoor Community Centre alongside DC Hibbert from our Local Policing Team.

Having completed speed checks on Chesterfield Road between Higham and Shirland, we have noticed that there may be a little confusion as to what the speed limit is on this stretch of road.

This is actually a 30mph limit, and not 40mph, which was the case over two years ago. The 30mph starts from The Greyhound at Higham and continues on to Chesterfield Road, through the village of Shirland, towards Alfreton.

Safer Neighbourhood Team officers are continuing to monitor this stretch of road, please do not get caught out.
