Boxing-specific strength training 🥊💪
A strength programme for a boxer isn’t always going to look like a typical weights session at the gym.
The goal isn’t simply to lift as much weight as possible, it’s to develop strength that supports your boxing.
For example, instead of always using a barbell bench press, I might use dumbbell chest press.
Why? Dumbbells allow each arm to work independently, encourage greater control and stability, and can help address strength imbalances, all while still developing the pressing strength we want.
Other exercises may also be selected or modified to work on things like:
🥊 Rotational strength
🥊 Stability and balance
🥊 Explosive power
🥊 Unilateral strength
🥊 Core strength and control
🥊 Shoulder health
🥊 Strength through boxing-specific positions and movements
That doesn’t mean traditional exercises like squats, deadlifts and bench press are bad for boxers. Far from it.
It’s about choosing the right exercises, variations, loads and training methods for the athlete and their goals.
A good boxing strength programme should complement your boxing, not leave you so battered from the gym that you can’t perform in the ring. 🥊
Strength training for boxing isn’t just about getting stronger. It’s about getting stronger in a way that helps you box better.

Don’t forget I’m away from 9th September for 2 weeks. This means no 1:1s and no class.
It won’t be all fun and games for me though, I’m still doing bits of training and having to take some travel scales 👊🏻🤪

🥪 Why do we demonise the humble sandwich?
Somehow, sandwiches have got a reputation for being an “unhealthy” choice… but it really depends on what you put in it.
A sandwich can be:
✅ High in protein
✅ Packed with vegetables
✅ A good source of fibre
✅ Balanced with carbs, protein and fats
✅ Quick, convenient and filling
Think wholegrain bread + chicken/turkey/tuna/eggs + salad + a sensible spread or sauce. That can make a perfectly nutritious, satisfying meal.
You don’t need to avoid bread to eat well. You don’t need to label foods as “good” or “bad”.
It’s the overall meal and your overall diet that matters , not the fact that it happens to be a sandwich. 🥪💪
Stop demonising food. Start looking at the bigger picture.
