Honours Even at Disley — Cheshire 9, Lancashire 9
Monday 24th August saw some of the most promising young golfers from Cheshire and Lancashire come together at Disley Golf Club for the annual Mixed Age Match, featuring players from the Under 16, Under 15 and Under 14 squads.
Cheshire made a flying start in the morning foursomes, winning three of the opening four matches, before a strong Lancashire fightback left the scores level at 3–3 at lunch.
The afternoon singles produced some excellent golf and plenty of drama. Wins came from Tom McCann, Max Gilsenan, Shane Clayton, Austin Eastwood, Jeremy Ju and James Priest, while Jack Walker secured a valuable half with a brilliant birdie putt on the 18th.
With the match finely balanced, seven of the 12 singles went all the way to the 18th green. Young Harvey Eastwood, making his first appearance, played superbly but was denied a half by a Lancashire birdie at the last.
The final result: Cheshire 9 – Lancashire 9 — a fitting outcome to a superbly contested match.
Coach Peter Barber praised the whole team for their performances, while Team Manager Andrew Henshall thanked the players, parents and supporters whose commitment makes these matches possible.
A great day of junior golf and plenty to be excited about for the future.

DELAMERE Forest Golf Club has hosted the Cheshire Boys Championships for over 30 years and once more they provided a magnificent stage for a superb contest.
The quality of the golfing talent on view was amazing and reflected the hard work put in by the CUGC in developing junior golf and a great advert for the work the county has put in over recent years to support Junior Golf.
The boys showed their golfing talent and also their friendship and impeccable golfing etiquette throughout the enthralling 36 holes.
Setting the pace was Shane Clayton of Delamere Forest, who had won the Cheshire Boys u16 title at Pryors Hayes GC a couple of weeks ago.
He posted a magnificent gross 66 to have a big lead going into the second round. He kept up his momentum in round two with another great score of 67 for a winning total of 133 which left him eight shots clear of Cheshire team stars Dean Lenahan (Wilmslow GC) and Will Furness (Ringway GC).
Shane could be the first boy to win the u16 and u18 titles in the same season and has the county archivists checking the records over the 62 years it has been held.
