It’s now Mon evening and time for our first Short Mat roll up. Eleven of us plus to non playing. Three
Triples and a pair. We had both mats out . We all struggled somewhat with how much weight we bowled at and the first end we had of six bowlers x 3 bowls each so 18 bowls and I think only 4/5 were actually still in play. We all struggled a bit after a long season out on the grass greens and the all weather surface we also play on.
I am not going to go game by game but on the pics is one of all that played and who with and I think the scores are pretty well correct but if not I am sure someone will let me know .

I thought it was about time I got round to doing my match report from Sat afternoon . The reason I am late putting this on is because I was watching the World Series Dart on Sat evening and Sun afternoon and evening and on Mon evening I was at the club for our first Short Mat Roll Up but more of that later. A 4 mxdt game of 18 ends against
Chessvale . Not a bad afternoon for weather but we did have a good shower that made most of us put on some wet weather clothes.
Rink. 2. Chessvale.

A slow start from us until the 5 shots scored on the 7th and then a 3 on end 9 put us ahead at 10-5.
16 shots in the next 5 ends meant a good lead with a total of 26-5 with 4 ends to play . We did lose those last 4 ends but the damage had already been done and the final score was,
Broadway 26 - 12 Chessvale.

The 7 shots scored on end 3 took us to 9-0 and by end 9 the lead had grown to 16-5. Broadway won 5 of the second 9 ends and that kept the score ticking over nicely to end with a final score of
Broadway 23-9 Chessvale.

Six ends to 3 for the first 9 ends that gave us the lead at 11-3. We then lost 4 of the next 5 ends that allowed Chessvale to make an inroad to our leading score at 12-8 with 4 ends to play. 11 shots in our favour from those 4 ends got us to a final score of
Broadway 23-12 Chessvale.

Eight ends to Ten in Chessvale
favour that is not to bad but if you look at the scores on the card you can see why we lost . We gave away to many multi shot ends . Even at halfway and 6-10 down didn’t seem that bad and surely we couldn’t continue to struggle as we had been. Michael and Ray upped their game but sadly they didn’t get much help from me.
I couldn’t seem to get any aspect of the game to work for me and ended with a final score of
Broadway 12-26 Chessvale.

That was also our last summer season freindly for 2926.

Sunday morning Sept 20th and Broadway Triples Team of
Kieran Jaycock, Matthew Crick and Roger Crick were playing at Cheddington Bowls Club in the Bucks Benevolent Trips. Their S/F opponents were Woburn Sands and they had a 6 shot win to take them to the final where they met Gerrards Cross. They did unfortunately lose in the final .
Well done in getting to the final.

Thurs Sept 18th and 3 Broadway members Lewis Fletcher, Bryan and Caryl Collins were playing for the Bucks VPs at Waddesdon in a 6 mxdt friendly over 18 ends . A fair afternoon and warm when the sun came out but a little chilly in the wind if it didn’t but the main thing was it stayed dry.
My comments will be with the photos. It was a great afternoon and we met some new players and the match was very competitive as you will see later. After the match we were all well fed and had a drink and a chat .
Enjoyable afternoon on the green that played very well.

Sunday afternoon and 4 Broadway members were playing for the Bucks VPs in a friendly at Chessvale Bowls Club. Lewis Fletcher, Stuart Churcher, Bryan &
Caryl Collins. 5 mxdt triples and a pair but the pair became a triple v a pair. I was to far away on rink 6 an outside one and not so easy to keep an eye on the other rinks so I will mainly comment on the cards.
It did start raining and we had a 15 min break and also cut the ends down to 16 ends. An enjoyable afternoon and a nice buffet table after the game.
I don’t know what the other players thought but it seem it all changed after the fairly heavy rain shower.

I couldn’t stay to watch the afternoon club matches so I can only comment on the cards and what I have heard since . The first one was the 2 wood singles on rink 6 between Roger and Matthew Crick so a little family rivalry I expect.
Played in a sets format of 8 ends for each set and if it’s 1-1 after 2 sets the winner is reached by a 1 end decider.

Matthew won the 1st set. 4-7
Roger won the 2nd set. 6-5
The deciding 1 end was won by Roger with the last bowl to win
2-1 in sets.

Another afternoon match was the
Mens Singles on rink 1 between
Kieran Jaycock & Luke Swan.
Not much in it for the first few ends with Kieran up 3-2 after 5.
The next 8 ends certainly didn’t go Luke’s way and Kieran had extended his lead to 13-2 after
13 ends. Kieran then had 3 blank ends in a row and Luke got back to 13-7 . Over the next 4 ends Kieran scored 8 to Luke’s 1 and got him to the 21 shots for the win
Final score,
Kieran Jaycock 21-8 Luke Swan.

On rink 4 was the Handi cap singles between Roger Crick and Lee Adams. Looking at the card it was a bit of an odd game with both players getting stages when they couldn’t score for a few ends.
Even with the handi cap Lee didn’t start well an went the first 7 ends with no score and then Roger went 4 ends and again no score , then Lee another 4 ends and then Roger for 5 ends and that did allow Lee to get back into the game at 12-12 , the target of 21 shots in reach for either player and then Lee done it again no score for 4 ends and Roger scoring 10 and reached the winning score Roger 22-12 Lee.
Well played both of you and must have been one to watch.

Club Championship Singles on rink 2 again between Kieran Jaycock and Luke Swan.
Kieran got off to a good start and was 7-0 up after 4 ends but then dropped shots 3 ends in a row & the score now 7-4. The rest of the game went in a similar with a couple of dropped ends from both but Kieran always managed to keep ahead enough to get him to the winning line and a final score of
Kieran Jaycock 21-12 Luke Sean.
Congratulations Kieran .
Unlucky Luke to reach those finals and not quite getting the result you would have liked.

Sunday Sept 13th and the 2nd day of club finals being played.
10 am for the Club Open Pairs between Carol and Roger Crick v Luke Swan and Thomas Jaycock.
I was there to watch this one and as you will see from the scorecard
the result was not what a lot of people were expecting with Luke and Thomas not getting there first shot on the score card until the 9th end and with Carol having a good game as lead and Roger continuing his high standard of play recently the score by the mid way point was 19-1 in Carol and Rogers favour. The second half still wasn’t going Luke and Thomas’s way and they only won 2 more ends and conceded after 15 ends with the final score at
Carol, Luke.
27- 5
Roger, Thomas.
That may look like a bit of a beating but sitting watching the match it was more of a case that whatever shot Luke or Thomas played and they are both very good young players Carol and Roger could better it.

The second of this afternoons games was the Club Mixed Triples final being played on rink 5.
Malcolm Robins, Caryl Collins and Stuart Churcher were up against
Debbie Horsted, Sam Lincoln and Roger Crick. It always looked to me that a tough game for Malcolm, Caryl and Stuart was on the cards . There were good bowls from both teams and the first 8 ends were very even with a score of 4-6 in Rogers team leading. The next 5 ends were the game changers with a total of 14 shots scored and the total moving on to
4-20 with only a 3 ends left to try and get back into the game. It wasn’t to be though and the final score was
Stuart team 6-25 Rogers team.
I did watch most of this game and all the players had their good and less good shots but from what I saw it was Roger and his consistency that won the game .

After this mornings Town Cup game it was back to Broadway for around 1pm for 2 more club finals starting at 1-30 pm.
The first report is on the Club
Ladies Singles final between Carol Crick and Sarah Jaycock. Playing on rink 1 with the first to reach 21 shots the winner. Carol made a strong start and by the roughly half way point was leading 13-3.
At the end of the 10th end Sarah had clawed a few shots back to be
14-6 and then 14-8 after 11 ends.
The next 4 ends belonged to Carol and they built her score to a winning one of
Carol 23 - 8 Sarah.
Congratulations on your win Carol and commiserations to Sarah.

Two of our members were on the road early this morning for the short road trip to Chesham Bowls Club for the final of The Town Cup
Peter Coyne and Paul Rogers were playing Ross and Ashley on CBC over 18 ends . Peter and Paul were also trying to retain the Town Cup that they also won last year. No pics of the card but it was a hard fought match with neither side able to break away & take a decent lead. After the first 9 ends Chesham had a small lead at 5-8. A few ends later and CBC s
lead had grown a little but not out of reach. End 18 and we were 3 down and managed to get those 3 shots that made the score 15-15 &
and an extra end needed to decide the winner. With some great shots being played in the last end and a fairly close head it was Broadway to bowl the last wood but Paul didn’t need to play it as Peter had confirmed that we were holding the 1 shot needed for the win. The final match score
was
Broadway 16-15 Chesham.
Congratulations Peter and Paul on retaining the Town Cup and commiserations to Ross and Ashley and well done all of you for making it a great game to watch.
Good to see a few spectators as well.
