🟢⚫️ GAME WEEK 18 — FINAL FIXTURES ⚫️🟢

For the final time this year, here are your three Chepstow senior sides. One more Saturday — let’s hope the rain stays away!

🏏 1st XI

Save the hardest until last.

The 1s travel to newly crowned league champions Neath for the final game of the season.

Harry Hughes returns, while both Chitnis brothers are back in the side. A tough final challenge for the 1s to finish the season.

🏏 2nd XI

The final game of the year at Mathern Road sees the 2s welcome Vale.

With T away, Jon Huws takes the captain’s armband. He’ll be hoping the experience — if not necessarily the athleticism — of his top order can provide the perfect platform.

🏏 3rd XI — CHAMPIONS

Already crowned Division 12 champions, the 3s head to Monkswood & Panteg, who currently sit second.

Brent returns to captain the side. Can the champions finish the season on a high?

🍻 And then, of course, the mandatory end-of-season celebrations will be adhered to in the evening.

🟢⚫️ GAME WEEK 17 RESULTS ⚫️🟢

🏆 3rd XI CHAMPIONS! 🏆

The big news from Week 17 — the 3rd XI have secured the Division 12 title with a game to spare!

Whatever happens next week, Brent’s boys are league champions. A fantastic achievement from a young side who have consistently given opportunities to players coming through the club.

Congratulations to everyone involved — thoroughly deserved. 👏

Here’s how the rest of the weekend unfolded…

🏏 1st XI vs Port Talbot

The 1s welcomed Port Talbot to Mathern Road in another crucial South Wales Premier League 2 fixture.

Asked to field first, Jason Dobbie struck early before wickets from Leach and Hall reduced the visitors to 118-4. Raahi Kumar and Ben Hope-Bell then claimed two and three apiece respectively, with some sharp work in the field helping Chepstow bowl Port Talbot out for 209.

The chase proved difficult against a strong bowling attack. Chepstow slipped to 60-6, before Hall and Dobbie fought back with a 50-run partnership, Hall reaching his half-century.

Unfortunately, the early damage proved too much and Chepstow were bowled out in the 42nd over, losing by 68 runs.

🏏 2nd XI vs Machen

The 2s travelled to Machen with a young side looking to finish the season strongly.

After last week’s club-record 233*, Ollie Thornhill continued his incredible form with a superb 76.

Unfortunately, wickets fell regularly around him and Chepstow were restricted to 152.

Machen chased the total without losing a wicket. A tough afternoon, but another valuable season of development for a young 2nd XI who will return to Division 3 next year.

🏆 3rd XI vs Llanarth

CHAMPIONS.

Knowing 14 points would secure the title, there was understandably a little more tension than usual at Francis Field.

Alun Jones 79 and stand-in skipper Luca 81 provided the platform, taking Chepstow to 222-7 from 40 overs.

Llanarth started brilliantly, putting on 93 for the first wicket and briefly making the title dream look rather less certain.

From 93-1, however, the bowlers turned the game around. Max Hunt (2), Leo Hutchings (2 on his senior debut), Ben Tate (2) and wickets for Luca, Tom and Jack Hogan saw Llanarth bowled out for 175.

20 points. League title. One game to spare.

A brilliant achievement from a young group — and another fantastic example of our pathway from Colts cricket into the senior sides.

🟢⚫️ 233 NOT OUT. CLUB RECORD. HISTORY MADE. ⚫️🟢

What a day for Ollie Thornhill.

Batting for the 3rd XI against Vale, OT produced an innings that will go down in Chepstow Cricket Club history — 233 not out.

After reaching his century, Ollie accelerated in extraordinary fashion, taking the game away from Vale and powering on to a magnificent double century.

In the process, Ollie:

🏏 Broke Tyler Morgan-Hughes’ long-standing club record of 191, set for the 2nd XI
2 x 💯 Became the first player in Chepstow CC history to score a double century
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Finished top of the Wales honours board this week
🇬🇧 Ranked 4th in the UK for the week

His innings helped the 3rd XI post a ridiculous 364-1 from 40 overs before completing a 154-run victory.

A truly extraordinary innings and a record that had stood for a long time.

Congratulations OT — 233 is one for the history books.

🟢⚫️ GAME WEEK 16 RESULTS ⚫️🟢

Congratulations to Ollie Thornhill on an extraordinary achievement, smashing the Chepstow Cricket Club record for the highest individual score and becoming the first player in club history to score a double century with an incredible 233*. What a knock! 👏

Three senior games, Colts cricket, and plenty more to celebrate. Here’s how Week 16 played out…

🏏 1st XI vs Pentyrch

Fresh from their win over Maesteg, the 1s travelled to Pentyrch looking for another crucial result.

Batting first on a scorching day, Scott Bailey (46) and Bruno Chitnis (34) put on 86 for the first wicket. AJ added 32 before James Hall blasted a quickfire 35 and Fil Chitnis finished unbeaten on 20*, taking Chepstow to 235-6.

Pentyrch started strongly, reaching 100 without loss, but Tregaskes once again led the fightback with an excellent 3-wicket spell. Bruno Chitnis also produced a run out as the hosts slipped to 153-4.

Despite further wickets from Bruno and Hall, Pentyrch held their nerve to chase it down with four wickets remaining.

A tough one to take, but 8 potentially valuable points in the fight for survival.

🏏 2nd XI vs Ponthir

The 2s welcomed Ponthir to Mathern Road looking to avenge the 10-wicket defeat in the reverse fixture.

Archer fell early, but Harris (34) and Tuhin (49) rebuilt before Jason Dobbie produced a fluent 50, anchoring the innings. A late 26 from Eddie Hillman lifted Chepstow to 208-8 from 45 overs.

Ponthir made a strong start with a 70-run opening stand before Eddie broke through. Dobbie then applied the pressure with another miserly spell, but wickets proved hard to come by.

Shaveen and Finn Hillman both struck late, with Finn claiming his first 2nd XI wicket on his debut alongside his brother Eddie.

Unfortunately, Ponthir held their nerve and reached the target with just two balls remaining.

A brilliant contest for the neutral and a seriously close one for the 2s.

🏏 3rd XI vs Vale 🤯

Well… where do we even start?

A picturesque village green, small boundaries and Ollie Thornhill clearly deciding he wasn’t going home until he’d hit everything.

233.*

OT smashed the club record for the highest individual score in a Chepstow shirt and, in doing so, became the first player in the club’s history to score a double century.

Alun Jones provided superb support with 82, while Jack Ward joined the party with a rapid 29*.

Chepstow finished on an absurd 364-1 from 40 overs.

With Vale needing to attack, wickets followed. Ben Tate claimed 3, Charlie Harkins added 2 and Paul Phillips chipped in with one as Vale were eventually dismissed for 210 inside 31 overs.

A huge 154-run victory and, even more importantly, the 3s are now just one win away from promotion. 👀

🏏 Colts | Under 15s vs Newport

The Under 15s got the weekend started on Friday.

Batting first, Finn Hillman led the way with 44 as Chepstow posted 141-6 from their 20 overs.

The bowlers then delivered, with Raahi taking 2 wickets and Miles, Max, Elliot and Ted all getting among them. Excellent fielding helped restrict Newport to 107-7.

A strong all-round performance and another win for the Colts. 👏

Coming off another big weekend, the senior sides go again. Three wins please, gents. 👌

🏏 1st XI

Fresh from a crucial 20-point win, the 1s make just one change as Lloyd Bartlett comes in for Harry Hughes. Can the boys keep the momentum going?

🏏 2nd XI

The 2s are looking to bounce back, with T welcoming back the dynamic duo of Archer and Bostock. 👊

Eddie Hillman also comes into the side, joined by brother Finlay, who earns his 2nd XI debut after some strong performances for the 3s. 🙌

🏏 3rd XI

Back on the road as the league leaders look to strengthen their position at the top.

Thornhill returns alongside Ward and Charlie Harkins as the 3s look to keep the winning run going.

Three wins please, gents. 👌

A friendly awaits on Sunday against Penalt & Redbrook, with Fil Chitnis captaining the side.

🟢⚫️ GAME WEEK 15 RESULTS ⚫️🟢

A little late, but here’s how last week played out!

🏏 1st XI vs Maesteg ✅

The great escape stays firmly alive as the 1s secured a comprehensive 92-run victory at Mathern Road.

Back in the side and back as skipper, AJ won the toss and elected to bat. Scott Bailey (55) got Chepstow off to a flying start before AJ top-scored with a fluent 56. Harry Hughes added 31, with contributions throughout the order taking Chepstow to a competitive 241.

With the ball, James Hall struck twice early to reduce Maesteg to 19-2 before finishing with 3 wickets. Bruno kept things tight and grabbed one, before Tregaskes continued his superb form with 4 wickets, ripping the game open. Lewys Jones finished the job with two as Maesteg were dismissed.

20 points secured. Exactly what we needed.

A special mention to Maesteg, who stayed on in the clubhouse afterwards and were excellent visitors. Great sportsmanship throughout. 👏

🏏 2nd XI vs Creigiau

The 2s travelled to league leaders Creigiau looking to revive their promotion campaign.

Batting first, Raahi Kumar led the way with 48, with Tuhin adding 31, but regular wickets meant Chepstow were eventually bowled out for 157.

Dobbie claimed two wickets as the 2s tried to fight their way back into the game, but the total proved too little. A tough afternoon for a young side, but plenty to learn from.

🏏 3rd XI vs Dinas ✅

The league leaders were back at Francis Field, with Brent electing to bat first.

Alun Jones (60) got things moving, before the skipper continued his excellent form with 61*. Harry Harkins then accelerated brilliantly, finishing with 66 to take Chepstow to a formidable total.

The fast outfield made life difficult with the ball, and Dinas began to edge ahead. Enter Max Hunt, who claimed three huge wickets to swing the game back our way.

With everything still in the balance, Raj Chitnis produced another outstanding spell, taking 4 wickets with superb control to finish the job.

20 points, another win and the 3s extend their lead at the top. 👏

💚 Ladies Softball

The ladies travelled to Llanarth for Sunday’s softball tournament.

Despite a brilliant cameo from Molly in both games, the ladies fell short against both Monmouth and Llanarth.

No matter — our very own festival is on the horizon, and the ladies will be raring to go!

Here we go again! With the school holidays in full swing, it’s senior cricket only this week.

🏏 1st XI vs Maesteg (H)

Back at Mathern Road as the 1s continue their fight for survival. Aaron Jones returns to the side as Chepstow look to pick up some vital points at home.

🏏 2nd XI

The 2s are looking to bounce back and reignite their promotion campaign, with some serious reinforcements.

Jason Dobbie returns to the field after a spell on the sidelines with injury, while his old—and half-metal—mate Luke Watson is also back in the side. Two experienced heads returning at just the right time. 👊

Can the 2s get their promotion push back on track?

🏏 3rd XI

The Field of Dreams hosts again, with the Harkins Pavilion entering its penultimate matchday of the year.

Fresh from his magnificent century, Paresh is back looking for more, while Max Hunt returns alongside fellow young guns Guthrie and Hebborn.

The 3s currently sit top of the table—can Brent’s boys tighten their grip on the summit?

Another packed week of cricket saw the annual visit of Teversal, three senior league fixtures, Sunday cricket at Mathern Road, and another outstanding week for our junior section. Here’s how it unfolded…

🏏 Midweek XI vs Teversal CC ✅

Before Saturday’s league action, Chepstow welcomed Teversal CC to Mathern Road for the 50th consecutive year as part of their annual South West tour—a fantastic tradition between the two clubs.

James Bostock captained the side on a memorable evening that saw Aaron and Harrison Jones represent Chepstow together for the first time, with Harrison making his senior debut.

Bowling first, it was Harrison who stole the headlines. The youngster claimed 4 wickets on debut, remarkably without needing one of his dad’s famously questionable catches! 😅 Aaron chipped in with two wickets before the loudest cheer of the evening belonged to skipper Boz, whose wicket was his first in over 20 years, wrapping up the innings with Teversal all out for 188.

In reply, the Jones father-and-son opening partnership laid the perfect platform. AJ made 38 before Tom Absalom added 33, while Fil Chitnis continued his outstanding form with an unbeaten 53*. A late flourish from Boz (14 from just 5 balls) sealed another enjoyable Chepstow victory.

A brilliant evening of cricket, friendship and tradition. Thank you to everyone at Teversal CC—we look forward to welcoming you back next year!

🏏 1st XI vs Ynysgerwn

Back at Mathern Road, stand-in skipper Ben Sidney-Jones won the toss and elected to bat against a strong Ynysgerwn side.

Things couldn’t have started much worse as Chepstow slipped to 32-3, with a competitive total looking a long way off. Once again, Harry Hughes stood tall. His classy 83 rebuilt the innings superbly, with Ben Hope-Bell (32) and Lloyd Bartlett (18) providing valuable support. A determined effort from the middle and lower order lifted Chepstow to 221, a total that looked highly competitive after the early collapse.

Chepstow needed early wickets and Fil Chitnis delivered, removing one of the openers after the visitors targeted James Hall in the opening overs. However, a superb 113-run partnership for the second wicket swung the game firmly in Ynysgerwn’s favour.

Lewys Jones (2) and Tregaskes (3) dragged Chepstow back into the contest with excellent spells of spin, but the visitors held their nerve to complete the chase.

Defeat was disappointing, but 7 valuable points could still prove important in the fight for survival.

🏏 2nd XI vs Penarth II

A youthful 2nd XI travelled to Penarth looking to bounce back.

After losing the toss, Chepstow were asked to bowl first and made an excellent start. Chris Archer was superb with the new ball, bowling with an economy of under two an over while claiming a wicket. Malith Madurasinghe also struck early before Josh Powell added another. Raahi Kumar then removed two batters to reduce Penarth to 75-5, putting Chepstow firmly in control.

Credit to the hosts though, who rebuilt impressively to post 221-6, despite another wicket from Ted Blandford.

The chase never quite got going. Archer fell early before Malith battled hard for an excellent 62, but regular wickets meant no meaningful partnerships could develop. James “Boz” Bostock looked in good touch for 22 before an unfortunate run out ended his innings, and Chepstow were eventually dismissed for 154.

A disappointing afternoon, but plenty to build on from another young side.

🏏 3rd XI vs Croesyceiliog ✅

The league leaders made the trip to Croesyceiliog looking to strengthen their grip on top spot.

Asked to bat first on a surface that looked anything but straightforward, Chepstow quickly showed the pitch wasn’t quite as tricky as it appeared.

Luke Watson laid the foundations with an excellent 40, before Paresh produced an innings to remember. Batting through the heat with tremendous composure, he finished unbeaten on a magnificent 110*—his maiden Chepstow century. A superb knock, richly deserved. 👏

Skipper Brent Harkins added another composed 62, while Fin Hillman provided late fireworks with 18 from just 11 balls, lifting Chepstow to an imposing 279-4.

Despite plenty of runs to play with, the quick outfield ensured there would be no easy afternoon with the ball.

Charlie Harkins struck twice up front, Paul Phillips added another, while Raj Chitnis bowled beautifully to claim two wickets. Jack Hogan and Tom Absalom also picked up two apiece as Chepstow wrapped up a convincing 102-run victory, ensuring no Croesy batter was able to turn a start into a match-winning innings.

Another 20 points, and the 3rd XI remain firmly at the summit of the table. 💚

🏏 Sunday XI vs Cardiff Casuals

A youthful Sunday XI welcomed Cardiff Casuals to Mathern Road.

Batting first, Fil Chitnis carried the innings superbly with an unbeaten 77*, while brother Bruno added a well-made 52. Although the middle order found scoring difficult, Jack Hogan produced his highest senior score of 25, helping Chepstow post a competitive 211. Well batted, Jack! 👏

The visitors made a strong start with a 94-run opening partnership, but wickets from Bruno Chitnis , Ellis Davies and Tom Absalom pulled Chepstow back into the contest. Kailan Hooper then claimed a well-earned brace to keep hopes alive, but despite a spirited effort in the field, Cardiff Casuals reached the target with an over to spare.

A great game of Sunday cricket played in the right spirit. 👏

💚 Ladies Softball

Congratulations to our Ladies, who finished runners-up at the Croesyceiliog Softball Festival! 👏

After winning their group, the team reached the final where they were edged out by just two runs against Malpas in a brilliant contest.

A fantastic achievement—well done to everyone involved! 💚

🌟 Colts Round-Up

What a way to round off the junior league season!

🏆 Under 11A travelled to Abergavenny and produced arguably their best performance of the year, posting 223 before dismissing the hosts for 115. Frank F top-scored with 33, while Arthur L returned superb figures of 2-7 as Chepstow completed a dominant victory.

The Under 11B side suffered only their third defeat of the season against Glangrwyney. Korey A impressed with 2-10, while Felix T struck 23. A fantastic effort from a squad playing their first Premier League season, finishing an excellent 3rd place.

On Tuesday, the Under 13s travelled to Ponthir knowing victory would secure the title. Jack H continued his excellent season with 2-5 as Ponthir were restricted to 66-7. After a few early nerves in the chase, Under 11 player Parag K showed maturity beyond his years with an unbeaten 27* to guide Chepstow home and seal the Gwent Premier League title. 🏆

Thursday saw the Under 15s travel to Usk, where they found themselves in serious trouble at 6-5 after just three overs. Miles H and Henry K rebuilt the innings brilliantly to reach 109, leaving the bowlers with work to do.

They delivered.

With Usk well placed at 89-3, the pressure told as Ted R, Finlay H, Henry K and Jack H all produced crucial spells. Behind the stumps, 11-year-old Sam A was outstanding as Chepstow held their nerve to claim a thrilling 1-run victory.

That result completed an incredible season for our junior section.
