Give yourself a big hug. 🤗
You deserve it, especially if you’ve been working super hard at your desk 🌟
I love this movement because you’re giving yourself a little self-love while also giving your back some much-needed movement after spending hours in that sitting position.
That little bit of self-massage between the shoulder blades is an added bonus. It’s simple, it feels good, and it’s something you can easily do for yourself.
So take a moment, breathe, hug it out and give your back a little bit of love 💛

Did you know you can use your eyes to help bring some movement and awareness to your neck?
This is something I learnt during my 300-hour yoga teacher training, and I found this connection between our eyes and neck quite fascinating.
Our eyes and neck are closely connected through the nervous system. Eye movements interact with the muscles and proprioceptive system of the neck, helping the brain coordinate eye, head and neck position and maintain gaze and postural stability.
When we spend hours focused on a screen, our eyes and head can stay in a very fixed position for long periods of time. Giving your eyes a chance to move and explore can be a simple way to bring some variation and awareness back into this system.
This can be particularly interesting if your neck tends to feel stiff or tense after a long day at your desk.
Sometimes the body has more ways to create movement and release tension than we realise.
Give this a try during your next work break and notice what you feel.
Top is inside out again 😅
Anyway…
Does sitting for hours leave your hips feeling stiff and your bum feeling numb?
If so, take a moment away from your desk and give your body a little movement, mobility and strength.
Start with some simple hip circles to bring movement back into the hips, then add some glute squeezes and kickbacks to activate and strengthen the glutes and hamstrings.
Mobility through the hips is important because it allows them to move freely, while strong glutes play an important role in supporting your pelvis, hips and overall stability, helping your body manage the demands of sitting, standing and moving throughout your day.
Both are important for helping your body better manage the demands of sitting.
A few mindful minutes spent consistently can make a difference over time.
Give this a go during your next work break and notice how your body feels afterwards.
What I’m trying to explain here is actually Tadasana.
It looks simple, but it’s actually one of the hardest postures in yoga.
Why? Because it asks you to become aware of how you’re standing, grounding through your feet, finding stability through your body and creating length through your spine.
And that awareness doesn’t have to stay on your yoga mat.
How are you standing? How are you sitting? Are you aware of how your body is holding itself throughout your day?
The more you practise finding stability and alignment, the more awareness you create around the habits and positions you move through every day.
Practice makes progress.
So give this a go and bring a little more awareness to how you stand, sit and move today.

If you spend hours sitting at your desk, your hips and the front of your thighs can spend most of the day in a shortened position.
And if you’re also active outside of work, tight quads and hip flexors can easily build up even more.
This simple standing quad stretch is an easy way to bring some length and movement back into the front of the legs and hips during your workday.
Your quads and hip flexors are important for so much of the movement you do, so it’s not just about keeping them strong; it’s also about giving them space to relax and move.
You don’t need to do a whole workout. Sometimes a few mindful minutes is enough to help your body feel a little more open.
Remember, practice is progress.

Why do we only do this when we practise yoga?
We spend hours sitting at our desks, but rarely think to give our bodies the same space to open, breathe and move.
These simple angel arms can help open the chest, create more space through the front body and counter some of the rounded position we spend so much time in.
And sometimes, that little bit of opening is exactly what you need when you’re feeling closed off, sluggish or low on energy.
You don’t need a yoga mat or a whole practice. You can do it right from your desk.
So the next time you feel like you need a little more space, movement or energy, give it a go and notice how you feel afterwards.

Your shoulders and chest starting to feel tight and restricted from sitting for hours at your desk?
Try this simple towel exercise to bring some movement back into the chest and shoulder area, which can become shortened when in that sitting or slouched position.
Adding some mobility by moving the arms up and over can help open the chest and create active movement through the shoulders, while adding rotation can help keep the rotator cuff moving well.
Remember to breathe and move slowly as you practise this mindfully.
It’s not just about stretching; it’s about doing it mindfully and intentionally, giving your body and your mind a chance to create space, feel good and reconnect.
