ECSMBA was formed over 30 years ago to introduce & develop Short Mat Bowls throughout Essex. Curren Pitsea Leisure Centre were contacted along with S.T.C.

The instigation of Short Mat Bowls began with a deputation from Bromfords Bowling Club to Outwood Common Community Association over 30 years ago. Alan Pierce, Jim Walker and Brian Savage met Bob Poulson and John “the gimp” to talk about Short Mat Bowls which they had seen somewhere up North. At Outwood Common they formed a small Bowling Section of 12 players, some people had never played bowls bef

Essex County Short Mat Bowls Association
Proudly Presents the

Sammy Lambert Charity Triples
Sunday, 13th September 2026
Venue: East Hanningfield

The Essex County Short Mat Bowls Association is proud to host the Sammy Lambert Charity Triples on 13th September 2026 at East Hanningfield.

Sadly, Sammy Lambert passed away in 2017. Sammy was a passionate advocate for the game of short mat bowls in Essex and served for many years as the Association's President, a role he carried out with great dedication, commitment, and pride.

In memory of Sammy, and in partnership with his wife Linda and the Lambert family, the Essex County Short Mat Bowls Association established the Sammy Lambert Charity Triples in 2018. This years event raises funds for Marie Curie, a charity that provides invaluable care and support to people living with terminal illness and their families across the UK.

Visitors can also read Sammy's own account of how the Essex County Short Mat Bowls Association was formed on the About Us page of the Essex website. His vision, leadership, and commitment played a significant role in developing and strengthening short mat bowls throughout the county.

This annual charity event is held in recognition of Sammy's outstanding contribution to Essex short mat bowls and to ensure that his legacy continues while supporting a cause that was close to the hearts of his family.

We look forward to welcoming clubs, players, and supporters for a day of competitive bowls, friendship, and fundraising in Sammy's memory.

Please See Entry Form below or contact Steve Killington to book your reservation

Presentation Night - Time Change

The league and county are looking forward to the Presentation Quiz on Saturday at Falcon. This is to celebrate all the winners and runners up in both league and county competitions. But we are aware many of you may want to watch England play Norway on Saturday evening. Because of this the committee felt it would give everyone the chance to see the match if we started promptly at 6.30 instead of 7 pm.

We hope you will all enjoy the evening and if you were able to bring a raffle prize that would be much appreciated. Please pass on this change of start time to all your club members on your table.
