Last weekend was certainly the start of the ‘epic’ events season for the Chelmer members starting with Nick Boyle on Saturday who completed the Vätternrundan race in Sweden a mere 315km in torrential rain and windy conditions 👏👏.

Then there was Jerome Manson and Carl Wardell who completed the Glorious Gravel race in the Cambrian mountains over 169km inc 3800m of climbing with several 7km climbs.

Also in Wales Rob Johnston completed the famous Dragon Ride over 138 miles and 11,500ft of climbing. Rob also raised over £1,000 for Macmillans 👏👏👏.

We also had our usual club rides inc a bonus Saturday steady ride and on Sunday for Steve Freemans ‘Beatles’ birthday he led a C group ride on the Suffolk coast around Aldborough.

Fantastic efforts from all club members and even more epic rides coming up next weekend.

This news mainly concerns longer standing Chelmer members and those that enjoyed the epic Chelmer Winter Tours and visits to Mallorca in the late noughties and early teens, so apologies to the newer members……

The funeral of Former Chelmer member and attendee of various Chelmer functions in past years, John ‘JD’ Edwards will take place on Friday July 10th at 2.15 at Mansfield Crematorium.
Followed by a wake at Mansfield Town football club.
His friends in the Midlands have asked if we can let them know rough numbers and any dietary requirements…… it’s a good time for those of us that need to travel, plenty of time to get up there…..

Please let me know if anyone plans to attend, car sharing will be available.

Thank you.’

With the traditional spring training camps/cycling holidays coming to a close a reminder that club member Andrew Grant’s cycling holiday venture is open/available all year round - even as a base for a family holiday during the summer at very competitive rates.

As we head into the warmer Summer months on the Costa Blanca, Never Just A Ride holidays are always open! Be it for a bespoke cycling holiday, OR just booking the self contained 2-bed apartment (sleeps 6) in fabulous Javea (with own kitchen, pool etc.. ) be it for either a few days break or a full holiday.

Andrew still has availability in the apartment from now and through some weeks in the Summer, and would love to see it used by folks in the Chelmer community.

For as little as €100 per night to stay in the apartment, you can be enjoying the best of the Costa Blanca !
