U14 Football Cup - Preliminary Round🔴🟡🏐
FULL TIME SCORE:
St Johns GAC 3.17 - 0.10 Darragh Cross GAC
Match Referee – Anthony Gilchrist, Teconnaught GAC
St Johns welcomed East Down neighbours Darragh Cross 14s to this preliminary round match at lunchtime on Sunday.
Over recent years these lads have played each other and there was never much between them, with both teams anticipating a tight affair.
Free flowing football was evident and the game was played in good spirits, with both teams scoring freely in the first half despite best endeavours by their defensive opponents.
The home side had a stronger first half and entered the half time break with a 4 point lead, leading with a scoreline of St Johns GAC 1.7, Darragh Cross 0.6.
The home side had a strong second half with the benefit of a slight breeze with some excellent long range points featuring from the St John’s attack.
St John’s continued the pressure and secured a strong victory.
The St Johns defense was marshalled well by Rory in goals supporting his full back line of Eoin, Joe & Cormac who had their hands full with half backs of Zach, Adam & Jack B eager to press forward at every opportunity.
Jack W and James worked tirelessly in midfield. The starting half forward line of Jack S, Aaron and Liam showed great energy, interchange and support from the attacking option with Cian, Barney and Jimmy all contributing, and subs Fintan, Darren Og, Jack McM & Peter helping the team.
