Peacefully, at the home of his son in Carnoustie, on Thursday, July 16, 2026, Eddie, in his 93rd year, beloved husband of the late Ann Wilson, a dearly loved and special dad of Scott and Fraser, a dear father-in-law of Susan, devoted grandad of Rory, Nancy and Blythe. A Celebration of his life will be held in The Carnoustie Golf Hotel, Carnoustie, on Friday, July 31, at 11 a.m., to which all relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Family flowers only, please.

GARY PLAYER SALVER
The Mercky team of Kevin Coffin, Paul Hogan, Jack & Allan Fisher competed in the annual Carnoustie inter club event on The Burnside today. A great effort and very respectable score saw them finish 3rd. Well done guys!

Another new member was successful on The Burnside yesterday. James Sharp beating Gary Cavanagh 3 and 2 in The Ben Gordon Trophy. Well done James!

Winning the title in blustery conditions yesterday 5 and 4 against Ross Munro.

⛳ Spotlight On: Golf

Didn’t someone once say, “Golf is a good walk spoiled”? What little did they know! Living here in coastal Angus we’re lucky to have some of the most beautiful and challenging links courses right on our doorstep. Sea air, wind off the North Sea, firm ground underfoot… it’s hardly a bad place to spend a few hours.

But leisurely? Not quite.

An 18-hole round is miles of walking over uneven terrain, combined with repeated rotational power, balance under load, grip endurance and controlled deceleration. Sports science shows the golf swing is a full-body movement - force generated from the ground, travelling through the legs and hips, through the trunk, and out through the shoulders, arms and wrists.

It’s certainly not just a “swing of the arms.” It’s coordinated, sequenced, rotational power.

A typical golf swing involves:

• ⛳ rotation predominantly in one direction
• ⛳ separation between hips and shoulders (often called the “X-factor”)
• ⛳ strong glute activation to stabilise the pelvis
• ⛳ controlled rotation through the upper back
• ⛳ repeated loading through the lead shoulder and wrist

Add in wind resistance on a links course and uneven lies, and your stabilising muscles work even harder.

.. And it’s very one-sided. Over time, that repeated asymmetry can lead to:

• ⛳ one hip tightening more than the other
• ⛳ reduced upper back rotation
• ⛳ lower back stiffness after a round
• ⛳ shoulder or neck tension, especially during a busy playing season

If rotation becomes restricted higher up the chain, the lower back often ends up compensating, which is why so many golfers feel it there.

KCR treatment works through the whole kinetic chain rather than chasing the sore bit. The aim is to restore balance left-to-right, reduce compensatory tension and allow joints to move more freely within their natural alignment.

For golfers around here, that can mean:

• ⛳ smoother rotation
• ⛳ less post-round tightness
• ⛳ more comfortable movement between rounds

Golf might look like “just a walk”…but it’s a full workout in disguise 😉
