The Clyde Walkway between Mauldslie estate and Crossford has had its boardwalks, stairs, and fences repaired, and is ready for all of you and your furry friends (and your not so furry ones too)

Improvement works have been completed on the Clyde Walkway between Mauldslie Bridge and Crossford.
Stairs and boardwalks have been replaced, pathways realigned and fencing replaced to ensure that the route can be enjoyed for many years to come.

Here we have 3 very similar looking organisms at first glance— but really they are very different.

The image on slide 1 is a Yellow Dog Vomit/Scrambled Egg slime mould.
Unlike a true fungi it does not grow from a tangled collection of Hyphae cells called Mycelum…
The yellow mass you see is more like an Amoeba, crawling the forest floor looking for food, but when the conditions are right it will create spore releasing organs and reproduce much like a mushroom.

The second image is a true Fungi— Yellow Brain Fungus. A wood loving that lives off the lignin in dead trees.
The yellow part you can see is the fruiting body— a mushroom like structure that releases spores, but which grows from the microscopic mycelium growing deep within the tissue of the dead tree.

Pretty neat.

Walking on 2 legs is inherently unstable…

Add in loose connective tissue, weak hips, misaligned pelvis, or a dodgy knee—

And you’ve got increased wear and tear, inflammation, and an injury waiting to happen.

Walking and standing on 2 legs is inherently unstable…

That’s why most of the animal kingdom has 4, 6, or even 8 legs.

So imagine then, standing on a tall pillar (which is kind of what your legs are— fleshy pillars with knee joints in the middle) with just enough room for your feet to fit on.

Then imagine standing on that same tall pillar, but with a pillow under your feet.

You would feel a little off balance, and pretty scared.

You can even try it safely by (carefully) standing on a pillow on the floor.

It feels immediately unstable,

Causing your body to create stability by tightening in different areas to keep you upright.

The glutes tighten,
The hips brace,
The shoulders tense,
And the ankles lock,
While the feet and toes try hard to grip and hold on.

Your whole body works harder to create stability and safety when it can’t fully trust its base.

And that’s a great analogy for understanding why some people get really tight in certain areas.

And how some people can be in a heightened nervous system state for no obvious reason.

If a knee, hip, ankle, or lower back are weak, or unstable—

Your body senses that instability as danger, and acts accordingly to reduce the threat.

Tightening muscle and connective tissue.

Bracing to create stability and safety where there is too much movement.

And that’s why stretching and other interventions are usually ineffective.

If your body is bracing to create safety, and you stretch it, as soon as it detects that threat it will just go right back to bracing again…

Or locking down harder somewhere else instead.

That’s why the solution often isn’t to stretch more and make the body looser.

But to make the body feel aligned, supported, and safe enough—

That it doesn’t need to hold on for dear life.

That’s The Entourage Effect.
