Making the most of our pond!

At last week's pond dipping session we got some really good tips about keeping our little ecosystem healthy. So this weekend, we'll be tidying the pond!

Drop by the garden on Saturday 22nd August to lend us a hand, or to grab one of our spare irises to add to your pond at home.

Lots of tasks ticked off the to do list this week ✔️

On the list next week is to tidy up the pond area. That includes pulling out some of the irises, so if you'd like some for your own pond pop into the community garden between 10am and 1pm 🌱🌿

Thank you to all the volunteers today who pruned and supported tomatoes, saved yet more seeds, sowed winter veg seeds, planted out some squashes and skimmed the pond w**d from the pond (never the most fun job but it does keep the frogs happy 🐸) 🥰

So you've nurtured your tomato seeds and your plants are thriving. Maybe you grabbed one of our extra tomato plants and you've found the perfect space for it back at home. But what now?

Drop in and see us on Saturday 8 August to talk tomatoes! Ask us your questions about:

Another great day for the busy bees in the garden today 🐝 we potted on loads of seedlings from the polytunnel, supported some wayward tomato plants, sowed seeds to fill out the raised beds, and saved some seeds from spent flowers for planting next year. Plus welcomed many friends new and old ❤️

We have some new LOST PROPERTY in the garden! If you accidentally left your MP3 player in the garden today, we have it safe 😀 and will happily return it if you can give us a description! Pop in any Saturday 10am-1pm to claim it.

We also still have a Spiderman baseball cap which was left behind several weeks ago and is still waiting for its rightful owner 🕷️

We've got loads of lettuce!

Our green-fingered volunteers have outdone themselves once again, and we've ended up with way more lettuce than we could ever eat by ourselves. Pop in to the garden on Saturday 1st August to grab a few leaves, a whole lettuce plant, or to help us plant out our next crop.

We'd appreciate anything you can give in return, whether it's your spare change, your time, or your company. We've always got plenty of garden jobs you could help out with!

The garden is full of beautiful fresh salad veg right now. Join us on Saturday between 10am-1pm to get yours!

We welcomed so many volunteers and visitors to our magical corner of Roath.
Thank you to everyone who planted, watered, w**ded, learnt about seed collection with Izzy McLeod and Q***r Community Gardening, and made incredibly generous donations in return for our surplus tomato and cucumber plants to help us keep the community garden open 🌻
