Imagine approaching strangers in the remote Highlands asking for food and shelter. They'd likely question who you are. Yet, in Mongolia, nomadic people with very little—just the clothes on their back and their animals—would often welcome you in. They'd share their food, like goat's head and sheep's intestines, and offer you a place to sleep on their floor. These were beautiful, welcoming people.

For many, long runs are less about the physical challenge and more about quieting the constant chatter in our heads. It's a reliable escape, a space where you don't need to think about anything else. In a world where switching off that internal monologue is tough, especially when self-employed, running offers a much-needed mental break.

Mongolian rain is a whole other level of horrific. Losing your horse meant losing everything – your gear, your shelter. And the risks? People broke arms, got kicked in the head, and ended up in blood wagons. It truly felt like The Hunger Games on horseback.
