What an incredible weekend packed with karate, learning, friendship, and unforgettable memories at Kokoro Shotokan Karate’s fifth TSKA Summer Camp!🏕️🎉🥋

Three days of expert karate training, learning from some outstanding instructors, a successful kata competition, a great night of dancing, and the unforgettable experience of training on the rocks at Portland Bill – it really had everything.

A huge thank you to all the instructors, led by Sensei Peter Manning, for their knowledge, encouragement, and dedication in making the camp such a success.

We were also incredibly grateful and honoured to receive a special award in recognition of our support and dedication. It was a wonderful surprise and means a great deal to us.

Back at our Cardiff dojo this week, we tried out the sequence taught to us by Sensei Bill Gorthy and, judging by the results, I think we did a pretty good job of getting it right!

Events like this remind us what karate is all about – learning, challenging ourselves, making memories, and sharing great experiences with friends old and new.

What an incredible weekend at the Tony Conroy Challenge Shield Kumite competition!

Every single competitor stepped onto the mat with determination, heart, and true fighting spirit. From the very first round to the last, we witnessed some intensely hard-fought battles, with everyone giving absolutely everything they had.

Win or lose, the level of commitment, respect, and perseverance on display was outstanding—and that’s what makes events like this so special.

A huge well done to all who took part. You should be proud of your efforts!

Happy International Women’s Day from Kokoro Shotokan Karate 🥋💜

Today we’re celebrating the incredible women and girls who make our dojo such a strong, supportive, and inspiring place to train.

We’re especially proud to say that Kokoro now has more female members than male — something that reflects the dedication, confidence, and spirit our girls bring to every class.

From beginners stepping into the dojo for the first time to experienced competitors representing the club, our female karateka continue to show what focus, discipline, and determination look like.

A perfect example was last year at the TSKA Kata Competition 2025, where our girls didn’t just compete — they swept the medals 🥇🥈🥉.

An amazing achievement and a moment we’re all incredibly proud of.
Proof that hard work, team spirit, and a little girl power go a long way. At competitions and in training every week, the girls of Kokoro really do kick arse.
