After 4 seasons of waiting, the man with the massive head finally got his first Earlswood goal…and of course, it was a header! 🤣⚽️

🚨 THE LEAGUE SEASON IS UNDERWAY! 🚨

The Earlswood Rangers league campaign got underway today at Greenway Park, with The Wood getting off to an emphatic start with an 8-3 victory over CF Dragons! 💚🖤⚽️

🏆 Man of the Match, Callum Parsons, put in a resilient display at centre-back and capped off a superb performance by scoring his first goal for Earlswood (after four seasons) with a superb headed finish! With a head the size of his, it was only a matter of time really… 🤣⚽️

The Wood were solid all over the pitch and played some exciting football, much to the delight of Gaffa Sutty! Also getting themselves on the scoresheet were John Crosbie, Leighton Russ and Adain Philp, helping The Wood secure a brilliant opening-day win.

Debuts were handed to Lewis Putt, Shaylon Prosser, Levi Lewis and Ethan McGivern, while returning veteran Shane Balmont came off the bench to bolster the back line. 💪🏻

A fantastic all-round team performance and the perfect start to the season!

A MESSAGE FROM THE GAFFA 🟢⚫️

“Although we’re delighted to come away with the win, there are definitely things we need to learn from today, and discipline has to be one of our main focuses going forward.

Today saw us go down to 9 men, which gave our opponents the upper hand for that period. We conceded and fell out of shape.

That said, I’m not going to take anything away from the lads today. They played tremendously well against a very disciplined Grawen Arms side who kept coming at us and made us work for the result. We always had the quality and strength to get the job done, but there are lessons there that we need to take on board.

Looking at today’s squad, along with the three or four lads who couldn’t make it, I’m confident we’ve got a squad capable of challenging for league honours this season.

Myself, Craig and Will are really excited about what we’ve built. We’re very satisfied with the squad we’ve put together and we’re going to give it a bloody good go. 💚

We also had some impressive debuts today. Kazim Donald couldn’t have asked for a better introduction, scoring five goals, while Toby Yebdri put in a very impressive performance. Goalkeeping debutant Cameron St John was also excellent and showed exactly why we see these lads as an important part of the future of this squad.

Overall, myself, Craig and Will are extremely pleased with how pre-season has gone. We’ve seen plenty of positives, we’ve learned from the things we need to improve, and now we’re looking forward to the season starting.
