Back to school photos are a lovely tradition, but before you post, take a second look at what else the picture might be giving away.
Self defence isn’t just about what happens when things get physical. It’s also about awareness, prevention and protecting information about you and your family.
A single photo can sometimes reveal far more than you realise…
• Your child’s name
• Their school or uniform
• Their year group
• Your street or house number
• Your car registration
• Regular routines and timings
• Where you live or travel from
None of this means you shouldn’t share those proud moments. Just check the background, crop or blur anything identifiable, and think about what a stranger could learn from the picture.
Enjoy the moment. Share the memories. Protect the details.

Saw this today and it’s a tragic reminder that every action has consequences.
A single punch can change two lives forever.
Sometimes the punch itself causes the injury, but often the person falls, strikes their head on the ground and suffers a fatal brain injury. What might have been intended as “just one punch” can have consequences nobody can take back.
That is one of the reasons I take the responsibility of teaching self defence so seriously.
We train people to protect themselves when they genuinely need to, but we also teach that our response must be necessary, reasonable and proportionate to the threat we are facing.
Learning how to strike, defend yourself and fight does not give you permission to use those skills because someone has annoyed you, insulted you or challenged your ego.
In fact, the more capable you become, the greater your responsibility to exercise judgement and restraint.
There is no room for ego on our mats!
We want our students to have the skills and confidence to protect themselves and others, but equally, the awareness to recognise when they do not need to fight.
Walk away when you can.
De-escalate when you can.
Fight when you genuinely have to.
And understand that once you throw that punch, you cannot always control what happens next.

Would you like your child to become more confident, focused, disciplined and resilient, while learning practical skills that could genuinely help keep them safe?

Children learn:
🥊 Practical self-defence skills

🗣️ Awareness, boundaries and using their voice
🤝 How to work with others and handle pressure
And most importantly, they have a brilliant time doing it.

🥷 Little Ninjas are at AMK Krav Maga Canterbury!
We have two parent-and-child programmes specifically for our youngest members:
👣 Ninja Tots: Ages 3–4
A fun first introduction to movement, confidence and self-defence through games and play.
🥷 Little Ninjas: Ages 5–6
The next step, with more structure, challenge and practical Krav Maga skills while still keeping sessions fun and age appropriate.
And there’s something that makes these classes a little different…
❤️ Parents are on the mats too.
You don’t sit at the side watching; you join in, play, learn and experience the class alongside your child.
It’s a brilliant opportunity to spend proper one-to-one time together, have fun, build their confidence and be right there for all those little wins.
No martial arts experience needed! Just come along, get involved and enjoy it together.
📍 AMK Krav Maga, St Dunstans Street, Canterbury

More women’s safety events are coming to Kent! 💪
Yesterday we were at Dover Police Station meeting with the Dover District Community Safety Partnership, and our delivery partners Loz and Baz • Stress Less Live More and we’re delighted to say that we’ve secured funding to deliver another 10 safety events across Dover, Deal and Folkestone.
This follows the success of the work we’ve already been delivering in the area and will allow us to continue reaching people both in the community and in local secondary schools.
The programme will include:
🟣 Women’s Safety Events (WSE) in the community – practical personal safety, awareness, confidence and physical self-defence skills.
🔵 Women’s Safety Events and Young Men & Boys Safety Events (YMBSE) in secondary schools – helping young people better understand personal safety, healthy behaviours, awareness, confidence and how the choices they make can affect themselves and others.
We’re incredibly proud to see this work continuing to grow and, more importantly, to know that hundreds more women and young people will have access to these sessions.
A huge thank you to Dover District Community Safety Partnership for continuing to support and fund this vital work.
