"Going from university boxing squad to heading the Copper Box Arena, live on BBC Sport, I can't even believe it as I say it now."

Ellie Bouttell () read Chinese Studies at Churchill College, Cambridge, where she picked up boxing in her final year through the Cambridge University Amateur Boxing Club () She is now an elite professional boxer with a world ranking of no.7 in the Bantamweight category, with a record of 7 wins and 1 defeat, having recently headlined the Copper Box Arena in a tough contest against Francesca Hennessy.

Under the invitation of Boxing is Love (), Ellie sat down with Mark Brian, Director of Sport at the University of Cambridge, to discuss how she came to the sport. The conversation moved through mental health as much as physical fitness, with particular attention to what daily training does for academic life.

We are delighted to share that Ellie is offering a small number of free 1-2-1 mentoring sessions for young boxers through Boxing is Love. To apply, send a DM to with a brief note about yourself and what you hope to take from the session.

With particular thanks to Mathias from for filming the interview.
