We get asked this a lot. New students beginning their journey, existing students 'chasing' that next grade...

The reality is you never stop learning. It takes a long time to settle into that mindset (maybe some never do), but when you do drilling those basics, kata and kumite techniques over and over takes on a whole new meaning.

We hope you enjoyed the summer break. Just a reminder we're back this Thursday September 3rd.

7-8pm all grades
8-830pm senior grades

We're looking forwards to seeing you all.

23/07/2026

Reminder that there is NO training tonight. We are taking a summer break until Thursday 3rd September where regular training will resume.

19/07/2026

As requested - a short workout plan you can adapt and use for yourself throughout the summer to keep on top of your training. Modify as needed, and aim to do this twice a week.

Summer Break Karate Workout

Aim: Stay fit, keep your techniques sharp, and be ready for class when we return on 3rd September
Time: 15–20 minutes
Frequency: 2–3 times per week
Modify: As required to your needs.

1. Warm Up (3 minutes)
• 30 seconds jogging on the spot
• 20 jumping jacks
• 10 bodyweight squats
• 10 shoulder circles backwards
• Gentle leg swings and hip rotations

2. Fitness (6 minutes)
Complete 3 rounds of:
• 10 Squats
• 10 Press-ups (knees if needed)
• 20 Mountain Climbers (10 each leg)
• 30 second Plank
Rest 30–60 seconds between rounds if needed.

3. Karate Basics (5 minutes)
Perform each technique 20 times on each side, focusing on good form rather than speed.
• Snap punch
• Reverse punch
• Front kick
• Downward block
Then perform:
• 20 junzuki punches
• 20 kette junzuki
Imagine an opponent and concentrate on balance, posture and strong technique.

4. Stretch (3–5 minutes)
Hold each stretch for around 20 seconds.
• Hamstrings
• Quadriceps
• Calves
• Groin
• Hip flexors
• Shoulders
Don't bounce—stretch gently until you feel a comfortable pull.

Bonus Challenge (Optional)
If you'd like to do a little extra:
• Practise your favourite kata 3 times
• Spend 2 minutes balancing on one leg (change legs every 30 seconds)

Remember
The goal isn't to become exhausted—it's to stay active and keep your karate progressing over the summer. Even one or two sessions each week will make returning to class much easier.
Consistency beats intensity. A short workout you actually do is far more valuable than a long workout you keep putting off.
Have a fantastic summer, and I look forward to seeing everyone back in class.

Training as normal tonight - and gentle recalibration reminder of how to look at and plan your training.

Here's a great way to look at your overall training program and what you do with attending the weekly classes as well as additional practice throughout the week.

Using the “Minimum + Bonus” Rule
This prevents falling off track.

Minimum (must do):
- Attend the weekly class
- 1 practice session

Bonus (great if done):
- 2–3 practice sessions
- Conditioning
- Technique study

Even a 10 minute practice counts!
Consistency matters more than intensity.

If you miss something:

Miss one practice → do the next one.
Miss a class → schedule extra practice.

Never let two weeks pass without training!
