SUMMER ROWING VENTURES

Over the weekend, two of our own headed to Nottingham to compete at the British Rowing Club Championships.

Holly, last year’s Chief Cox and our current Women’s Vice-Captain, has been training with the CUBC Development Squad over the past few weeks and coxed their first Women’s VIII+ to a commanding victory, crossing the line seven seconds ahead of the second-place crew.

Meanwhile, Gemma, an eight-time Boat Race competitor and last year’s CUBC Women’s President, raced for her final time in the Championship Women’s Double Sculls, taking an impressive silver alongside her sister and racing the winning crew right to the finish line.

Huge congratulations to both of them for their fantastic results!🦅

May Bumps 2026 🦅
Congrats to all crews, coaches and supporters of LMBC this year!!

W1 led the way with a row over on day 1 by holding off a fast Churchill crew before bringing home a triumphant bump against Emma on Day 2!! Day 3 was also a rowover behind Pembroke before sadly eventually being caught on a battling final day by Churchill thus retaining their 6th place on the river.

M1/O1 fought heroically against a Peterhouse boat loaded with world class experience but conceded headship on day 1. The following day also resulted in heartbreak as Caius caught M1 at bottom finish in a hard fought battle for 2nd place. Two confident row overs finished their week as the 3rd placed crew on the Cam.

W2 had a tough but embattled week being bumped by Homerton W2 and a blading Clare W2. But put together some great performances with rowovers on days 2+4.

M2/O2 also had a bruising spoons campaign succumbing to Clare, Fitz, FaT (Trinity) and Churchill. The crew can be proud of holding their own against some fast 1st college boat crews and retain the 'M2 headship' which they will be fighting Caius for in 2027.

W3/🦩 the flamingos took over W3 this year with John's best female athletes taking on rowing often for the first time. W3 rowed over Day 1 ahead of Homerton W3 before being caught be them on Day 2. This eventually was followed by bumps by some good 2nd boat crews at Peterhouse and Selwyn.

O3/O4 - We had the great pleasure of qualifying two fellow/staff boats this year for may bumps and are incredibly proud of their performance on the river. O3 especially on Day 2 had two gruelling and hard fought row overs in the heat.

Thanks once again to all rowers, coaches and supporters of LMBC! There is always a lot of work that goes unseen and it is appreciated by all here at Lady Margaret.

LMBC May Bumps Crews 2026
The last day of bumps is upon us with all Maggie crews fighting hard for positioning on the river.
O1 will fight hard to try and retake second position from Caius. W1 will be chasing down Pembroke to try and secure a top 4 position on the Cam. O2 will be battling hard to stay as the only second crew in Div 1 against a fast Churchill O1. W2 will be fighting off a speedy Catz W2 and deny them blades. Similarly O3 will be fighting hard to battle off a Sidney O2 crew fixed on blades. W3/🦩 will be fighting in Div 4 between Peterhouse W2 and Selwyn W2. O4 will be hoping to row the course today being chased by a strong Queens O3 boat.

May Bumps 2026
The pinnacle of college rowing is upon us with May Bumps happening for the next four days on the Cam. Be sure to come down to the river to support the blazing red blades of LMBC. Yeah Maggie!! VL 🦅

Nottingham City Regatta 🌲🦅

M1 - After an early 04:00 start in Cambridge M1 rowed early in the morning with a slightly chaotic and groggy time trial. But came together for a narrow but well fought victory taken at the line of the B Final. Thus M1 secured 1st place in the Notts City Academic 8+ category 🏅

W1 - Nobly/begrudgingly the women also had to wake up at 04:00 to do some May term revision in the Nottingham sunshine and cheer on the men. In the afternoon they rowed well and smashed the C final coming in first and securing 3rd place in the Academic 8+ category 🥉

M2 - With an ever-changing crew and a last minute suprise promotion (/demotion) from cox to rower M2 performed very well securing second place in the Academic 8+ category 🥈

Champs Head this weekend awaits as May bumps gets ever closer.

Congrats to all crews who rowed this term in Lent Bumps!!

W1 rowed hard throughout their bumps campaign against tough opposition. Notably they were assisted by some expert coxing. Holly was commended for her "stunning” steering by CamFM. W1 rowed over day 1 before being bumped by Trinity Hall, Newnham and Pembroke to finish 5th on the river. This term has brought some tough racing and some very strong opposition, but it has also shown their grit, commitment, and teamwork that defines our club and we are incredibly proud of how this crew has performed throughout the term.

M1 rowed over with the headship on the first two days only for heartbreak on the third day. A technical error within the crew brought the boat grinding to a halt 30 secs into racing, resulting in a rapid concession of the headship to Caius. Fuelled by a desire for revenge and redemption on the final day, Caius were made to work for it and M1 pushed them hard for the length of the course. Alas, it was not enough to reclaim our top position. While tough to take as a crew we credit Caius as worthy victors. We will be back.

W2 arguably worked hardest amongst all Maggie crews with not a single rest day over the five days of bumps. Despite being bumped on the first day by Caius W2, the girls fought hard as the sandwich boat between divisions. Their hard work was rewarded with a revenge bump on Caius on Friday. Sadly a very fast Eddie's W1 ended their week with a bump.

M2 - Despite a last minute crew change in stroke they put in a solid performance rowing over on the first two days. The crew was getting faster everyday but despite this got in the way of some very strong crews in Wolfson M1 and the blading Caius M2 to get bumped on the last two days.

M3 have rapidly improved as a crew over this term and started their campaign with two row overs. Friday they were bumped by a fast Anglia Ruskin crew and in the chaos of bumps got slowed down on Saturday to be eventually caught by Emma.

With Lent Bumps over, our crews are now looking forward to WEHoRR and HoRR.

The ultimate challenge of May Bumps awaits...

Congrats to Gemma King for making the Blue Boat for a third consecutive year. Gemma will be rowing in the bow seat and is also women's president this year for CUBC. LMBC will be cheering on Gemma and all of the light blues along the Championship Course in London and tuning in from Cambridge! The women's blue boat race is scheduled for 2:21pm on Saturday 4th April. Yeah Cambridge!
