Longstanton at Northstowe Bowls Club

Today the Longstanton C&D squad, winners of division 4, travelling to Girton to play Coton, winners of Division 2, in the semi final of the Champions of Champions.
Longstanton put up a formidable performance, but Coton came home the stronger overall, winning the match by 33 shots.
All concerned had a very enjoyable morning, with a massive thank you to Girton Bowls Club for hosting the competition and allowing us to experience bowling on a near perfect green.
All league matches are now complete, with a big thank you to everyone who has been part of a very successful campaign this season.

After a fantastic season our C&D team, captained by Rob Page, finished top of division 4, with 18 wins from 22 games and a total of 115.5 points. Well done to everyone who played in this league during the season. The top teams in each division now play-off in the champions of champions to determine the overall league winner. Hence, Longstanton will play the division 2 winners, Coton, at Girton on Saturday 5th September at 10am. Spectators are both welcomed and encouraged to attend.

This evening was the CaD squad’s final league game of the season. The venue was Melbourn, and Longstanton again made another clean sweep 7-0 (38-24) .

Although, the weather conditions only allowed the playing of 10 ends, with heavy rain, thunder and lightning, which brought the match to a halt.

The hosts providing a very welcoming tea and biscuits after the game which was gratefully received.

What an end to a great bowling season, the results really went our way, a great team effort from seasons start to seasons end.

Saturday 5th September sees Longstanton playing in the Champions of Champions semi final against Coton.

Tonight was the last home match of the 2026 summer season for the Longstanton C&D squad.

Good news, a 6-1 (67-49) win over Little Shelford gives us the required points, to secure a top of the table finish, making us C&D Division 4 champions.

This is the reward for a great squad effort, with players bonding well together. One more game to go, away to Melbourn on Thursday, where hopefully we can continue our winning streak.

Saturday 5th September we will be playing against Coton in the semi final of the C&D League’s Champion of Champions.

Rob our captain wishes to congratulate all members who have contributed to the squads success this season, and he much appreciates everyone’s support, and is already looking forward to the 2027 season.

Firstly, a big thank you to everyone who played in the Ely and District afternoon league this year.

Having been promoted from division 2 to division 1 last season, it’s fair to say we found life a lot tougher in division 1. Despite our best efforts we finished second bottom and therefore we’ve been relegated back to division 2.

On a positive note, the teams in division 2 are generally a lot nearer to Northstowe and hence there’ll be less travelling next year.

Western Park Green tonight saw Longstantons C&D squad gain promotion to Division 3 with another clean sweep of 7-0 (68-51) against Foxton.

We just need another result from our last two remaining matches to be division champions.

So, next Tuesday we are at home against Lt.Shelford, and Thursday it’s the final game of the season away at Melbourn. So whatever happens we have had a great season.

This afternoon Alan Tooke and Stuart Hunter were successful in winning a place in the final of the C&D league Secretaries and Treasurers Cup.

Lets cheer them on to hopefully go one place better than last year, when they finished as runners up.

Friday evening the C&D squads action was in the picturesque village of Barrington (reportedly to have the longest village green in Britain).

Well on the bowls green we once again made a clean sweep, with another 7-0 (69-42) win.

What a great week the C&D ,and M&D squads have had, winning all 5 matches. It now looks likely that the C&D team will be promoted back to Division 3 🤞.

With 3 matches to play in the C&D League, Longstanton require 5 points to acquire promotion, and a maximum of 15 points to be champions. So with 21 points available top spot is very possible.

Next week we have just one match, a home game against Foxton.

Well done to all participants in all matches this last week, a fantastic run of deserved results.

Next Friday our eldest playing member David Plumb reaches ninety. Well done David, you are still a great bowler, so keep on rolling.

Western Park Green was tonight’s venue for the C&D squad match against Chesterton.

Longstanton making another clean sweep 7-0 (60-45) in a very pleasurable game ,with very sociable opponents.

So it’s away to Barrington on Friday evening, with fingers crossed for another victory.

Yesterday evening the C&D team travelled to Cambridge to the ever friendly Alex/Beehive green, and in a very closely contested match recorded a 5.5 to 1.5 point (58-54 score) victory.

Another great team performance.

We now take on Chesterton on Wednesday and Barrington on Friday evenings, so more good bowling to look forward to.
