I think this is probably my favourite bit of Amber Gale progress.
Yes, sheās 4kg up from where she started, but that number means very little without the rest of the story.
For years sheād been seeing physios, dealing with constant knee and back pain, and had almost just accepted that feeling uncomfortable was part of life.
8 months into coaching, after building a progressive rehab programme into her training (plus millions of technique back videosās)Ā now very close to being pain free.
And while thatās been happening, sheās got stronger, built muscle, changed her shape, become so much more confident in the gym and now sheās learning to deadlift and absolutely loving it š
Which is why I find the 4kg thing so interesting.
Because if weād spent this whole phase chasing the scale down, we could quite easily have missed all of this. Right now, the only number weāre really interested in pushing up is the one on the deadlift bar.
A little shoutout has to go to her partner Jamie too, because he was actually the one who first reached out to us knowing how much he thought coaching would help Amberās confidence and enjoyment of the gym.
Turns out he was right, we just wonāt tell him that š
I also know how big it is for her to put these photos out there publicly. Sheās chosen to share them because she hopes her story might help or inspire someone else whoās in a similar place.Ā
Proud of you Amber and if this is what 8 months has looked like, I think this winter could be very fun šĀ Watch this space⦠there are some big PBās coming.
An inspiration she certainly is and we feel privilege to have her as part of the TeamOB community š¤

Something Iāve had to learn over the years is that being consistent with your food also means becoming a bit more confident in your own decisions.
There will always be someone who has an opinion.
šSomeone who thinks you should be eating less.
šSomeone who thinks you should be eating more.
šSomeone who thinks ordering dessert means youāve āfallen off.ā
šSomeone who thinks choosing the salad means youāre being too strict.
If you let every comment change what you do, you end up eating for the people around you rather than for yourself.
That was definitely something I had to get better at. So now I try to ask myself a much simpler question:
Does this choice make sense for me and the bigger picture Iām working towards?
If the answer is yes, thatās enough.
My biggest reminder from my clients check in this week⦠build enough trust in your own choices so that somebody elseās opinion doesnāt get to become your decision.

Do you ever really find balance with food?

The longer Iāve been coaching, the less before & after photos have resonated with me. I actually pretty much stopped posting them for months. Not because I donāt think physical transformations are something to be proud of, of course they are but they just stopped feeling like they represented the whole person or the journey Iād watched them go on.
I think some of that comes from my own journey too. I know what itās like to get so caught up in chasing the physique, the scale and the next ābetterā version of your body that you forget to notice everything else thatās changing. And I just kept thinking, I donāt want to teach people to get stuck where I got stuck, I became a coach to help them go beyond that.
If youāve followed us for a while, youāll probably have noticed Lucas and I have spent a lot of time recently looking at every part of OB and asking whether it actually aligns with what we believe in. These āPlayer Cards are part of that alignment to our morals and values as people and as a business, Yes photos matter, the scale is data and nutrition is important too. But theyāre pieces of the journeyĀ alongside getting stronger, building confidence, changing behaviours, learning about yourself and becoming someone youāre genuinely proud of.
So yes, these bloody cards have taken me DAYS to figure out and genuinely reduced me to tears at the weekend š but Iām not giving up on them. I donāt want a clients journey with us to only celebrate how their body changed,Ā I want to celebrate the person they became along the way.
Weāve also set up instagram account too, another way to document wins along the whole journey. Today we celebrate Andie finally having the confidence to get the tattoo she has dreamed of for years š
Check it out if youāre looking for inspiration from real people on their fitness journeys and I promise I will persist at the OB Players Cards next one coming this week!Ā

Chloe (Chloe Best) joined Team OB wanting to feel more confident in the gym, build muscle and change how her body looked. Although she was already active, she didnāt really feel confident in the weights area or know how to structure her own training.
Over time, that relationship with fitness completely changed. Training became something she genuinely looked forward to, and Chloe started to love progression, the buzz of hitting PBs and seeing what she could do next.
šŖ DB bench: 3kg ā 14kg
šŖ Deadlift: 75kg x 8
šŖ Bodyweight barbell squat
šāāļø First half marathon
š„ 15 minutes off her 10-mile race time
But the thing weāre most proud of isnāt one of those numbers. Itās how much more confident she has become in herself.
Chloe once said, āI was so shy as a child, itās amazing to see how confident I am in the gym and in life in general now.ā
Sheās gone from feeling like the weights area belonged to everyone else, to knowing how to train, trusting herself and genuinely looking forward to seeing what she can do next.
Sheās also found a brilliant balance between strength training and running, and fitness has become something she and her partner John can share too. Next up, theyāre taking on the Great North Run together.
Today Chloe graduates from OB coaching. Sheāll always be part of Team OB and sheāll definitely be missed, but this is exactly what we want coaching to lead to⦠someone with the confidence, knowledge and self-trust to keep moving forward.
Weāre so proud of you Chloe and so excited to see where endurance sport takes you next. Iāve got a feeling weāll be watching you complete your first triathlon next year ā¤ļø
If Chloeās story sounds like the kind of relationship you want to build with fitness, DM us āCHLOEā and letās chat.
