Marley is delighted to join forces with South & City College Birmingham, the Department for Work and Pensions & Bauder to offer fully funded training and work experience to residents in Birmingham and the wider West Midlands region.

The construction industry is facing a shortage of people with the right skills and training, whilst at the same time, younger generations are struggling to find opportunities to pave the way for a meaningful career. To help address both issues, we have focused our efforts on initiatives that help local residents to develop practical skills, as well as helping contractors navigate the ongoing industry skills shortage.

This initiative requires the support of roofing contractors who want to make a positive impact in their community, so join us on 29 September for our Information Day at South & City College if you want to take part.

More than 80 years on, the Mulberry Harbours still have a story to tell.

BBC News has reported on the preservation of a surviving floating roadway section, which is set to be displayed at Solent Gateway in Marchwood.

For us at Marley, the story has a particular resonance. In 1944, we supplied precast concrete panels for the reinforced concrete ‘Beetle' pontoons that supported the floating roadways. Our contribution formed part of the wider effort to supply Allied forces in Normandy.

We are proud of the people whose skill and dedication made our contribution possible. Seeing this part of the wider project preserved is a welcome reminder of the engineering legacy they helped create.

This September, Team Marley will be taking on the Heidelberg Challenge, cycling 575 miles in just three days through France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany.

It will be a demanding journey, but one with an important purpose. The team are raising funds for Cancer Research UK, the British Heart Foundation and Tommy's, the pregnancy & baby charity, supporting the vital work these charities do.

2.6 km under the North Sea, a new chapter in the manufacturing of lower-carbon construction materials is progressing.

As the 1,400°C fire heats up the limestone mixture for the production of cement, CO2 is released. At its Brevik plant in Norway, Heidelberg Materials compresses the CO2 and then ships the liquefied carbon dioxide to be pumped and stored beneath the North Sea.

While the physical CO2 permanently remains under the body of water, the process is also documented and registered in the Carbon Bank to reflect this. The entire protocol is verified by Det Norske Veritas (DNV), with each carbon saving linked to an immutable transaction ID via blockchain-type technology.

Thanks to this innovative process, the cement produced in Norway can be commercialised as a standard product, and the carbon savings can be assigned to Heidelberg Materials' UK-made cement that we use for our Edgemere 2.0.

What this means is that the carbon-intensive shipping of the cement from the Nordic country to Great Britain can be eliminated while still enabling us to provide a transparent, third-party-verified supply chain track record for the carbon savings that our customers can benefit from when choosing Marley's Edgemere 2.0 interlocking concrete tiles.
