I’ve been busy in recent weeks with both the grassroots club and the academy I’m working with, holding zoom sessions and supporting other coaches through zoom. Evening sessions during the week and morning sessions on the weekends.

Hoping to be back on the grass very soon 🤞

Here is a quick sample of the grassroots zoom session work out videos 👍

A question every coach should ask, but few rarely do.

Reading more of John O’Sullivan’s, from Changing the Game Project, book ‘Every Moment Matters’. It has been a great book so far!

Writing, filming and editing home practice sessions for my grassroots team today. Trying to stay connected with the players and come up with something new, fun and workable for them during this crazy period in time. Hopefully, they still feel like they are developing and getting something from each week's video.

In this video Coach Catherall demonstrates 8 easy skills that any player can practice in a small space.

Ball mastery is crucial for all players to develop, no matter what position they play. Being comfortable with the ball at your feet is essential and is something every player should be constantly working on.

Skills:
1) Tick Tocks
2) Toe Taps
3) Forward & Backward - Sole Rolls
4) Sideways - Sole Rolls
5) Toe-to-Heel - Sole Rolls
6) Brazillian Shuffle
7) Stationary Scissors
8) Stationary Step-overs

These skills are suitable for all players to learn and practice at home, in the park or on the field.

These can be used by coaches to help develop ball mastery within their players and can be used to help beginners gain confidence in their ability.

Toe Taps are ultimately a very simple skill, but one that should not be forgotten. Any youth player should master this basic move early, and continue practice right through their mini football days.

This particular skill ensures that the player develops good close ball control, advances their use of the sole of the foot and builds an understanding of the force and pressure required to keep the ball still.

Continuing the use of this basic skill, repeating in every session and even using it in a game, will improve the overall players' ability.

This skill requires the use of both feet, builds stamina and keeps the players active during sessions when waiting for the next activity or potentially when in a queue situation.
